      Default TomTom for iPhone

      Guys,

TomTom has appeared on the App store.

It's £59.99 for the application without the cradle. Apparently it doesn't support the live services such as traffic etc either. My guess is O2 blocked that as it could be classed as streaming data I guess.

The cradle is an extra that you need to buy as well, one website rumors it to be £114 on top of the cost of the program.

So it's £60 for the program and £115 for the mount? They can well and truely shove that where the sun doesn't shine.

£60 for the software is ok, I'd say that's a reasonable price but they're really having a laugh if that really is what the mount will cost.

      Doesn't navigon look way better?

I don't even have an iPhone but the look of their software looks far better than TomTom

Co-Pilot live looks like an even better option - it's about £25 or so.

If you have jailbroken your iPhone you can get the new TomTom apps for free which is what I did. It works much better than Navigon in my opinion.

I have the kenwood dnx-8220bt SATNAV in the M3 but fancied the TomTom backup for when the wife and I drive all the way across France to Menton in September.

I installed TomTom last night, haven't had a chance to use it but on first impressions the UI is much cleaner and nicer than CoPilot which is a bit of a mess.

      Hi Paul

you will have to let us know how you get on with it once you have had a good play with it

I assume you need a holder to support it ie on the windscreen ?

I've got a holder (not the TomTom one) that should do so I'll give it a try. I'm off to Luton Airport after lunch (off to Paris) so I'll give it a quick try there and see how I get on with it.

From messing about with it last night I like it.

It's easy Drop me a PM if you want to discuss.

I used TomTom on the iPhone to get me to Luton Airport. It works fine, the iPhone speaker is a bit on the quiet side though.

From what I've read the mount also includes a GPS receiver as apparently the receiver in the iPhone isn't fantastic so TomTom are including one. That would account for about £2 of the cost - where does the other £112 come from?

Someone on another forum I use has just said that if you buy the mount you get the app included in the price.

Not sure where he found this out but it just about makes it a sensible price!

Feel free to remove this if unacceptable, PM me for details alternatively.

For the full western european app just download these files then extract resulting in an .IPA file which can then be imported to iTunes and then synced with your phone.

You can download the files as a free user but it would be quicker if you become a premium member if only for 30 days at a cost of approx £6.16 and make sure you download the rapidshare downloader to make the downloading easier. Or else download each file from the website.
