Hi Guys,
Right where do I start, last year i got my first speeding fine in 10 years of driving, i'm not one to put my foot down that often but when its an open road and no one about I sometimes put my foot down (like most i guess). Last year got caught doing 89 in a 70 overtaking cars on a 4 lane carriage way, i put my foot down as there was a car coming flying up behind be, to get out of his way quicker mainly, i would imagin we both got caught.
Well I think ive just been done again 40 in a 30, they have recently changed the speed limit on this road i dont use very often, im going along minding my own business and the traffic clears at the end of the road to reveal a man inside a van with a camera pointing right at me..
This will put me up to 6 points, be scared of getting anymore, as mentioned above i'm not one to go flying around I just need something to stop getting caught again.
What do people recommend?
Cheers
Dave
We can supply the Snooper units, but non of the kits out at the moment, be it Snooper, Road Angel etc etc, are allowed to have laser detection. They are all fixed point GPS units. Laser detectors are now illegal :(

yeah what about if I was crap at parking??
I wouldn't recommend a Snooper or a "Garage door opener (due to risks)".
I have a Road Angel Plus, the benefit of this is that it not only uses GPS to pick up camera spots and spots used by mobile cameras / police but it also has a laser detector in the front and back of the unit.
I did a load of research at the time and I'm really happy with it. It picks up way more locations than my TomTom (which has speed cameras added). You can also add your own locations to the RA unit aswell as choosing which sites it picks up, distance it starts warning you from etc etc.
I have hard wired the unit into my R and changed the option on the unit so it turns on and off with the ignition.
My mate bought a snooper and I really wasnt impressed, its old technology in my opinion.

i have a snooper on ebay atm, Snooper S6-R Neo (GPS and RLD) Speed Camera Detector on eBay (end time 07-Sep-09 22:52:33 BST)
great unit.
have two of them for sale atm
road angel plus is also a good unit
i have a road angel connected, bell euro 900, cheetah sentinal and a laser park pro (because i obviously cant park!)
the more kit you have to enable you to be a safer driver, the better IMO. ive noticed recently that even the road angel connected (which is supposed to update through gsm every few mins) is missing quite a few cameras and mobile spots.
at the end of the day there's no replacement for good old fashined observation but a little help wouldnt go amiss![]()

IVE GOT A SNOOPER S3 NEO and its very good if you go online you will be able to get lifetime membership of the download site for cameras too
I PROMISE I WONT MOD IT !!!!
The Road angel plus does have laser detectors front and back. They have only activated twice and this as due to sunlight (I have never been targetted by a police laser...yet).
I put my RA in the middle of the dash to give it the best chance of picking up the laser beam as police often point towards the middle of the car and use the numberplate as a good surface. You can buy additional sensors that sit next to the numberplates, but I really don't think they are needed seeing as the laser beam is emitted from the gun as a cone. The further away you are the easier it is for the RA to detect ( to a certain extent).

they did tests and found a huge difference in performance between the on dash and number plate ones. unless you have a jammer of some description by the time you get the warning its all over anyways so to me it makes little sense.
i also read somewhere that road angel had to code the laser sensors out of the unit in a firmware update. not sure how true this is though.

yup deffo pain in the ass
Have you tried adding the PocketGPSWorld speed camera database to your TomTom ?
They have loads of mobile sites on their database (too many if anything!). You can also download a set of voice warnings too, which give a verbal warning of what type of camera it is, with settable distances.
The problem with the mobile laser vans is that they can catch you from over 1km away, and you will need to spend a lot of money on a decent detector AND Jammer. As DWolfUK says above, a detector alone will most likely alert you too late, as by the time you get the warning and start braking they will probably have locked onto your car, and already got a reading.

ps did you also know by law if another car is travelling below the speed limit you can over take travelling over that speed limit whilst making the manouver so long as you are doing so safely![]()
