hope you didnt get to much hassle , or any points , or wernt going to much over 70ish,

my gf got 3 points in mine last week 36 in a 30 sneaky camera vans Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

96.7 mph 3 points £60
im always makin sure i dont drive over the magic 100 mph but that was to close i was told any thing over 95mph you have to explain yr actions to the court but he said he would let that go so ill take it on the chin and cool my speed .....

camera van takes a few days but you will find you need to have it with you by 2 weeks

well mate i wish you luck that you have not been caught but these days law of averages owners with powerfull motors will get caught speeding we dont buy these cars to drive like oap's lol

It actually needs to be *sent* within two weeks, it can take a while for it to get to some people if it's a hire car, works van etc.

The NIP has to *reach* who ever the car is registered to by the 14th day...if the person was driving a car/van that was not registered to them the registered keeper has 28 days to write back who was in charge of the vehicle at the time of the offence.
Once the registered keeper has given the driver details it doesn't really have a time limit.

If it is your car and you have not moved or just bought the car (the date on the NIP is after the date on your V5) then the NIP has to be on your doormat by the 14th day,if it arrives after that then it has not been served correct and you cannot be charged with the offence.


You get a verbal NIP (or should do) if you get stopped at the time so you won't get one in the post.

can you belive i went to take my counter part to my drivin licence to the police station and it was closed from 8 pm every night i find this bizzar since when do police stations close it never used to :(

It's not as simple as either of us are making out really.

For example, if the offence was committed on the 1st of the month and the NIP was posted on the 3rd of the month but not received until the 20th of the month, then it is still deemed to have been served in the 14 day time limit. However, if it was posted say on the 12th of the month and not received until the 17th of the month, then it's possible that it wasn't served within the 14 days as it's reasonable to assume that any hold up in the post means that it would take a day or two more.

If an NIP is held up in the post then the driver is still, unfortunately, liable to conviction.

Either way, if the NIP is received outside the 14 days you should still always reply to the S.172 notice as that's an offence (not to complete it) in itself. The front desks on most police stations are closed after certain times to save money on employing staff to staff them. Of our three divisional stations, only the HQ has 24/7 front desk and that's not all the time either.

At the other two stations is a phone that you can get through to call takers on. Handy if you're being murdered!
