Smile i want a R32 real bad and a big fan but 17

      hi all
i am a real big car fan but better a real big v-dubz fan!
i would absolutly adore a R32 as my first ever car but i am going to get a golf mk4 for temps
i live in uk and so therefore the insurance for an R32 will just be like a strike of lightning! lol when do you guys think i could get the R32 because i want it at a young age but with cheap insurance.
i have checked the insurance for a golf mk4 PD115 and it is costing me just over 2k and that is with my dad also insured on it with third party fire and theft! my dad has over many years experience and many years no claims also!

i would be grateful for your help thanks

Realistically, I'd say you're looking at 21 with a minimum of 2 years no claims bonus before you can insure one.

ok so i guess after uni ill be 22 so i could get one then and the prices will go down and on top of that my insurance will go down
i know preferably it is best if i get a real shitty car first time round and just build my no claims but i rather drive a good car from the start.
      thanks for the help everyone
i am hoping to join you one day on this R32 forum if not at 22 then sooner (i hope)

Why not that you by a cheap old ogly car and do the insurence on that one ( put it somwhere)
Then by the r and put it in your fathers insurence
( maby even some discount from the insurence for the 2end insurence deal)
      maby?

that's known as 'fronting' and UK insurance companies are very hot on that.. it's illegal and is just as bad as not having insurance at all

I think Ed on here was about 18 when he got his. I might be wrong but i think i was something like that so its not all doom and gloom?

Yes the insurance companys now have all that stuff written in the small print and your living on borrowed time if you plan on doing that old trick. 6 points and your car goes on the back of recovery truck. Then they will do this

Loads of mods but i cant be arsed to type them...........oh but its got a 3.2 V6!

      Can I ask a question?

Can you actually afford to buy the car in the first place?

If you can then the insurance is just a small stumbling block.

If you can actually buy the car and really want it that bad you could do what i did when I was 18. I was lucky enough to come into some money when i was younger and instead of buying a house or something sensible i bought a brand new 2002 MK4 1.8T GTi and insured it under my old man's name and me as a named on the policy.

I was 18, Zero no claims £830 with Bell Direct, who are Admiral/Elephant etc.

Only bad thing about it was the fact that I wasnt earning any no claims.

But I wanted the car so that was my solution. Otherwise I was looking at £2,000.

LOL nice one amster. A mate did that when he bought his Rx7. Agree with everything above. Definatly go fully comp. Best bet is wait it out till you've got a few noclaims.

Must admit didn't relise they could do anything about that because I thought asping as you were insured to drive any car then there wouldn't be a problem. How can they prove anything?????

There are a few ways ...if you as named driver are at uni and you have a accident or the car is nicked or you don't live at parents address...if you have a accident on your way to work....all these will make insurance company suspicious about who the main driver is.
There are probably other things that will make them suspicious as well.

I looked into this and i think alot of Insurance companies insist on you being 25 before being covered to drive other cars (3rd party i think) i know my last 3 have Direct Line/Churchill/More Than and Currently Greenlight im not 100% sure on dnt bother checking anymore as i dnt driver other cars.

Admiral now have multi-car, so you both build up no claims

The Admiral multi car only works if you stay with Admiral. If you change insurance companys you will loose the multi car no claims option. You gotta read the small print on that one, lol

Its another way of getting you to stay. It only really works if they are giving you a good price on your insurance.

I used to have this with direct line and it would have worked well for the mrs but when i changed for a cheaper insurance company the no claims that she was building up went. But i saved around £550 on my last years price so it was a no brainer

I've got my MK4 insured with Elephant which is the same basically and they told me that there were certain ages restrictions on gaining no claims as a named driver on a policy.

I wrote off a polo gti when i was 18 and therefore had a 5k claim against my name, i started on admirals 10 month bonus accelerator (1yrs no claims for 10 months driving, and its recognised as a full years no claims to other companies too) and I drove another polo gti until december 08 when i turned 21. I bought an R before xmas and insured it for £1100 with 1 yrs no claims, i am the policy holder/main driver.

Just wait. Why do you think insurance is so high for young people? Its because the ones with abit of money buy fast cars and crash then claim, making insurance premiums high! Get a cheap run around, it will make you appreciate the R32 so much more.

I had a 1.1 fiesta as my first car and remember that every time i get in my R! It makes the smile that much bigger!

I agree, but remember how it felt when I was younger and couldnt afford another car other than my Saxo 1.1! I'm glad now that I just accumilated ncd and saved the money so that when I finished Uni and now earn enough, I can afford to run and look after it.

I actually drove my old Saxo the other day (sold it to my step bro) - now that was wierd!! I kept pushing down my right foot and expecting the torque to kick in and nearly crashed it going around a corner in the wet lol
