Corrosion Warranty advice needed.

Afternoon all,

A few weeks ago, i noticed corrosion forming on the front two wings and also from within the boot handle on my 56' MK5.

A VW body work inspector came to my place of work and took photos and measurements as needed.

VW have given me a call explaining that they're happy to repair both front wings FOC including blending. (Which is great)

And they have offered a 50% "Goodwill" on the tail gate, meaning a price of around £170 would be payable.

The lady said on the phone, VW are aware that the boot handle corrosion is a common problem, and a technical instruction (or bulletin) was released due to this.

I asked the question, if it is a known problem, why are VW only offering a 50% offer, where as on the wings they're carrying out the work without charge.

She informed me its within my right to converse with VW customer services to see if they would increase the offer or do it FOC etc.

Now, my question is, has anyone been in the same situation and what was the outcome?

What angle do i take with VW customer services, do i play the unhappy customer, or polite and thankful that they've offered 50% but think they can offer better?

I am opting for emailing them, just to keep a paper trail of conversations as such.

Cheers!

Jamie.

P.s. I'm only looking for replies from people who have actually gone through this process (to prevent the thread from clogging up with random conversation), So if you haven't, please don't reply!

Chaps,

Need some advice... Had a call back from VW UK today and they have refused to increase their contribution from 50%...

The reason it has corroded is that water gets trapped under the VW emblem / boot opener, and then corroded from the inside out.

The lady on the phone said that the boot had corroded from 'external sources' due to the rain coming in from the outside and that's why they wouldn't increase their contribution.

Now, my argument is, surely the fact VW have offered 50% contribution, they are admitting the fact that it shouldn't have happened in the first place, so why aren't they offering 100% as with the warranty on the wings?

Any ideas of how I tackle this next hurdle?

Cheers.

Morning,

My car has just been in for front wings, both replaced. Also sills where also painted as there where rust bubbles appearing.

They paid fully for my wings, but first said i had to pay a 50% toward the repairs on the sills. However, with the trouble they had re-installing the skirts that was squashed.

They only have certain bits on the car which are fully covered on the repair side of things.

Also, the other reason that i managed to get it was that the car had full VW service history and that the car had no paint work before hand.

I had the opposite problem. VW would cover the cost of the front wings but only 50% of my rear wings.
I decided to go ahead with it and not try and fight for more as I was happy with the decision. Mainly due to front wings being caused by stone chips and wasnt expecting vw to cover them plus the money I was saving was much greater than the small fee to cover the 50%. Also you dont hear of many manufacturers doing this on a 10 year old car, alot of my mates were shocked when they found out I was getting it under warranty

When they had the car though VW then decided they wouldnt cover the 50% for the rears but were happy to continue with the fronts, I told them not to bother with the rears as for the small bit it wasnt worth the £500+

Cheers for the replies guys,

So for the sake of £200 or so, it may not be worth hassling them to up the percentage for the boot.

Just waiting to hear back from VW UK to get a full run down of work that will be carrie out, and what's included, blending etc etc
