Does any one know of laws for parking in cul-de-sacs? I have a neighbour who has a guy that lodges in their house. This one guy owns 3 cars and has just parked them up for months and not using them. Two are taxed and one is sorn.

Is there anyway to stop people taking the piss when it comes to parking in cul-de-sacs?

Can cars that are sorn be allowed to park in cul-de-sacs assuming as is classed off street?

A car that is SORN must be kept off public roads, therefore must be kept on a privately owned drive or land. Cul-de-sacs in housing estates are classed as public roads so he is braking the law. It must also be kept insured even though SORN.

Just to point out, the insured part only applies if it's SORN'ed and kept on a public road.. If it's SORN'ed and kept on private land or drive etc then it doesn't need to be insured..

What is the best way of reporting a car that's SORN parked illegally?

as above,  they are classed as public roads, and shouldn't be parked if sorn...  if they are all insured, I don't think there is much you can do about it..  My neighbour has 5 cars outside, 3 on driveway 1 on road and one on grass verge!  boils my blood!

DVLA.

Not sure they would be best pleased at a SORN'd insured car on the road. I'm not convinced that's legal

A car has to be taxed if not on private land.....it has nothing to do with insurance...it has to be taxed.

Contact local council and/or Police about the sorn'd one

It must be legal as not everyone has a drive or private land to store a car on when it is SORN'ed, so there needs to be some way of still allowing people to own their vehicle and have it on the road whilst SORN'ed.. Hence the insurance clause. That's my take on it anyway.

it can not be on a public road if it's not taxed

SORN stands for Statutory Off Road Notification which says what it means

Then where does the insurance part apply?? You don't need it insured on private land, so that's irrelevant, it must have to be in force whilst on the road.. There's no other reason for that clause otherwise.

from 2011 a vehicle has to have continuous insurance unless it's SORN'd   and if it's sorn'd it has to be off public roads

if it's off the road and not SORN'd it has to be insured

Well that makes sense.. I understand that, but nowhere on that page does it say it must be insured whilst SORN'ed as had previously been mentioned. I always understood it as SORN = off road, insured = on it.. Not SORN + insured. That wouldn't make sense.

Some people do have their cars insured even if SORN'd and off the road incase some fecker steals it, although there is no legal requirement to do so.

it doesn't have to be insured if it's SORN'd....but if it's SORN'd or not SORN'd....it has to be OFF any public highway if it has no TAX

If it's NOT SORN'd it HAS to be insured
