Lightbulb Fitting Porsche 6 pot calipers

Ok I just wrote this whole bastard guide and my finger slipped and lost it all..so second time lucky hey?

I bought a set of 6 pot calipers from Ebay and with the help of Dave Brown who you can find on this forum, I got all the bits I needed to fit them up. Dave supplied the carriers, lines and bolts, leaving me to buy a set of 15mm spacers (minimum you'll need) from Ebay for £75 from PW Motorsport.

I bought a set of M12 caliper bolts from VW as they need shortening to 18mm from the bolt neck. So cut them down to size and then loosen the cap on the brake fluid reservoir.

Remove the front wheel on the car and bask in the glory of your feeble ATE 2 pots...laugh at their pointless size and function.

Remove the caliper by removing both bolts holding the caliper to the hub, 18mm bolts. Jiggle the caliper to get it free of the disc. With the caliper free, remove the philips screw holding the disc in place, or in my case as it was siezed just drill it out. You should now with a bit of further jiggling get the disc off to reveal the disc guard.

3 8mm bolts hold this in, remove it, bin it..you can't fit the calipers with it on. Once done, fit up your carrier using the shortened bolts like so...

Now to removing the stock caliper lines. Using pliers tap out the retaining clip on the suspension strut, it comes off vertically at the bottom. With this gone you can pull the line bolt through and down to free the line.

Repeat this process where the line meets the car brake feed on the arch...horizontally this time.

Now using a pair of mole grips on the big line bolt for stability and an 11mm spanner on the car brake feed, anticlockwise to loosen the moving nut..

I used one of the covers from the new lines to stem the flow (drip) of brake fluid while I fitted everything back up.

Now you have the calipers off...compare piston size and girth as all men do.

Fit the lines to the caliper first at a slight angle for easier fitting...please note the calipers fit the car WITH THE NIPPLES AT THE TOP..air on top and all that.

With the disc on and the calipers fitted, fit the new lines to the car in the reverse of how you removed the old

Fit your spacers, repeat on the drivers side then bleed the brakes (both nipples both sides and the rears) as per my other guide and enjoy

Forgot to add, on the passenger side you will need to use your pad wear indicators in the pads. My calipers came with these for both pads, the stock one will do and simply clips from the old pad and slots/clips into the new pad with the larger side on the pad face...

You can't even compare stock 2 piston calipers to 6 pots...maybe if you had race fluid, top pads, lines and discs you'd be closer but these brakes are running on the stock disc with stock mintex pads and there is 0 fade.

Hi i've got golf mk4 1.8t (212bhp) and has upgrade my brakes to r32 about a year ago (front and rear). the differance was WOW! i could easly hit in too the dashboard under quick braking so this was something new for me as the standart gti brakes are rubish.
is it the same with upgreading to 6 pots from standard r32?
do you fill like it`s worth the £600?
i do like safety as i`m driving fast from time to time and LOVE the look of huge calipers. i`m only concern is will it be enough improvment in braking so i could say "MONEY WELL SPEND".
      thanks

DubAudio...yes, money well spent. You can stomp on these all day long at the Ring and not experience any fade or lack of believe they'll stop you dead.

      Dubzter, they're from Cayanne.

Elrao, it's an easy job and well worth effort...get stuck in

Have changed them before, it was the bleeding I got stuck with, but have one of those kits like yours now so hopefully easier one man job this time...

Just need some longer bolts for my OEM wheels as the ones I have are for after market wheels I think :(

      Nice one

I have the 996 turbo calipers to mount onto my R32 disk but ive had a nightmare with fitting,
I cant get the standard R32 alloys to clear them without a 15 mm spacer and that means poke!

How have you found this? arew your wheels outside the arch at all? what size space have you used?

      Thanks

Nice Job fella...long time no hear? I'm certain you can clear the Cayenne calipers with 10mm spacers (up front) when running Aristos....got them on mine.

I really need to upgrade my R32 brakes,

How much would the parts cost in total roughly?

What's the pedal feel like now by the way?

Second hand big brake kits normally cost between £600-£1000, all depends on what it is and how many miles it has done.

The Cayenne setup here, using your exsiting R32 discs will cost you ~£115 for the carriers, £60 for braded hoses, few quid for bolts...the expensive bit is finding the calipers, could be lucky and get some for £200, could cost you £400+ easily with pads.

Got a 993 Turbo based kit for sale in the for sale section, complete kit ready to bolt on. Slightly smaller discs than OEM R32 ones (322mm as opposed to 334mm), but 4 pot Porsche callipers as opposed to 2pot ATE.

Anyone? I guess these are Goodridge brake lines, but where they from a standard model, or were these custom ordered?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
