      Hi mate,

Never taken one off the golf, but done other airbagged cars. You have to disconnect the battery and wait at least 30mins for any current to dissipate from the airbag charges. It should be safe to take off then providing your careful with the centre section. The centre is usually held on by clips or screws on the back of the wheel. Give Rich R32 a shout as i think he changed his not that long ago.

      Hope thats helped a bit!

theres normally a couple of screws on the back of the wheel for the airbag (youll need to turn the wheel to different positions to get access)

once off simply unplug the bag and set it aside (make sure the battery has been disconnected for 30mins at least - ive seen ppl do it without but i wouldnt fancy it)

then you need a triple square (or spline) driver to remove the nut (not sure on size). be sure to mark this when you refit as they can only be cycled a certain number of times.

then should come straight off without issues.
