hey guys, just got my black 07 r32, live in cape town South africa. What a machine, i own an e46 m3 smg and the golf is just great in such a different way. anyhow want to do the flapper mod. Any ideas i have seen 2 ways to do it which is best? Also running GIAC software on it (its dsg only in SA) which gave it around 5kw's, not much but 15nm of torque which feels nice.

i plan on getting the haldex control unit II is that worth it?
thanks all

I will tell you now it's not worth doing the 'flapper mod' on the MKv. It's a waste of time imo. I put it back within 30 mins of doing it. I found it took away the raspiness of the exhaust and left a more droany sound.

Instructions of how to do it can be found here:

I think the Americans are the ones who were big into the flapper mod on the MkIV, then continued the idea on the MkV when it came to them - I'd say mainly because of the lack of aftermarket exhausts at the time.

I would say the flapper mod was never big in the UK, or anywhere other than America to be honest.

No harm in trying though. It literally takes 3 or 4 minutes to do.

As for the haldex unit, it's upposed to be a great bit of kit. I'm sure someone who has one will be a long to help.

As for power -

Remap
Panel Filter/CAI Kit
Exhaust
Cams

Then you can obviously go the forced induction route.

got the giac, and the k&n flat pan filter, cai could be nice but i cant find a hot looking one in SA, what exhaust is nice, looking for more metallic rasp and loudness at higher rpm under full bore, but not boomy at low revs, it has a baby seat mainly cos its my wifes but that dont stop me from burning it! can FI this car cos i would loose the maintenance plan, which is servicing and warranty for 100 000kms and 5 years. they cover everything except tires and oil

most people opt for Milltek exhausts you can also have a look into Neuspeed and Supersprint as they also do mkv exhausts.
