Mobile phone use and tailgating is much more dangerous IMO and rather they dealt with those people harshly. The number of young ladies I see on the motorway texting is criminal.
Did you ever see the Ford Ka veer into the central reservation on one of those Police, Camera, Action type programs?
Perfectly clear road ahead and no one to the left. Just drove straight into the barrier. Quelle Surprise, out stepped of the wreckage a typical peroxide airhead. Turns out she was using her phone and over reacted when the car steered toward the barrier. Hopefully her dice with death will teach her a much needed lesson.
As for middle lane hogging, well, it'd be nice if works but the knowledge it's now a fineable offense will be enough for most people.
I can see both sides. A lot of people occupy the middle lane because the gaps between lorries in Lane 1 are too short to bother moving in and out of. However, many a time I have joined a motorway and found ML dawdlers crawling along with 100s of yards of empty lane 1 ahead of them. So I have to peel out into Lane 3 and then back into Lane 1 again. These people are bloody vacant, ignorant and totally unaware of their own surroundings.
Many people just don't get that driving on Britains roads is a social activity and all about sharing the same road space, irrespective of who pays what amount of tax, or any tax at all. There are just waaaaay to many SARPs on Britain's roads who think THEY are right and everyone else is wrong. Until attitudes change, the misery of British motoring will never change. And I say 'British' because it's only Brits who have such ridiculous attitudes to driving. I've driven in most of Europe, America, Australia, Hong Kong and I've never seen such levels of appalling manners and selfishness as I see here.
If Brits ever drive on Italian Autostradas, they'll be picking fights with Italians left right and centre. When in Rome.....
