Mk4 R32

Keep getting this fault which brings my engine light on.

1 Fault Found:
17584 - Bank1: O2 (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst
P1176 - 001 - Control Limit Reached - MIL ON
Readiness: 0000 0000

What the hell is it?

Car has a decat and it has had the emissions side of things mapped out so it can't be that.

Cheers

To me it sounds like it is to do with that?

Sounds like lambda`s not mapped out properly.

Control limit to me suggests an emissions issue as well but I have a similar map as another member on here and he (I believe) doesn't have any issues with it.

It's also the base map R-Tech use on all Mk4 R32's and they don't seem to have this issue.

Okey dokey, getting somewhere now.

"I think for starters with this one we would need to have a look at it and check the software version. just one thing stands out with it saying bank 1. This means it would be the pre cat sensor anyway so nothing to do with a de cat! Usually the sensor or the actual wiring to the sensor."

Gonna replace my pre-cat lambdas and take it from there.

I always thought the Banks were the sides.....3 of the cylinders being Bank 1 and the other 3 being Bank 2 ...nothing to do with being before or after the cats?

From what I understand the layout is a follows: -

Bank 1 - The side where Cylinder #1 starts so Drivers side (offside)

Bank 2 - Opposite to the above, so Passenger side (nearside)

Sensor 1 is a control lambda (pre cat)

Sensor 2 is post cat one

Lambda Sensor Part Numbers

N/S/F Probe (Bank 2 / Sensor 1) - 1K0 998 262 M
N/S/R Probe (Bank 2 / Sensor 2) - 1k0 998 262 B
O/S/F Probe (Bank 1 / Sensor 1) - 022 906 262 Q
O/S/R Probe (Bank 1 Sensor 2)- 1K0 998 262 R

Worth mentioning I previously had 2 codes: -

17584 - Bank1: O2 (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst
P1176 - 001 - Control Limit Reached - MIL ON
16538 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B2 S1
P0154 - 008 - No Activity - Intermittent

I cleared them then 300ish miles later this one came back.

17584 - Bank1: O2 (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst
P1176 - 001 - Control Limit Reached - MIL ON

I'd check each sensor and wiring before you go spending money. It could be an intermittent wiring fault that a new sensor won't fix...

The definition is a little ambiguous too. I mean what does 'Correction' mean? The second fault that stayed clear seems to have a clearer description.

I have a selection of secondhand censors laying about. If you want i can post on to you what ever one you want and try it out to see if it sorts the problem. If the error code stops keep the lambda and pay me for it if not just post it back.

Thanks dude. You got one of each?

I was thinking on the way home today actually, surely if it was emissions related it would affect both banks as there is a cat for each?

I have several laying about the place, bits come and go all the time so hard to know exactly what bits i have. Let me know what your after and i will have a forage about for you. My HPA map would sometimes throw a wobbly even though the lower lambda`s where meant to be mapped out but only one lambda would throw the code.
