Hey everyone,

First off, my car is a manual. Sometimes when I am being a bit more adventurous with the R, giving it some gas from a stop, it's reluctant to make the shift from first gear to second. Although it does not happen all that often, it is noticeable and something that I have had to be wary of, as there have been a couple occasions where it has surprised me and I've ended up briefly grinding second. It happens even when the car is warmed up, but all other gear transitions are fine. I got VW to check the oils when it had its service last year but they said it was all good.

Is this something I should be wary of or just something to deal with?

Cheers.

All good ideas. I had thought the culprit was going to be the oil, so I actually told VW to replace it during its service, but they had a look and said that it wouldn't be necessary. Mind you, the day I actually trust a garage will be the same day that I learn how to fly.

ZIG, I would have no idea how to even go about doing that. Is that something I should ask to be done at the next service?

LOOK595, which brand did you go with? I will probably look in to doing this.

How on earth did VW check the gearbox oil lol.........................I'd suggest an oil change asap & also check your engine mounts are still hloding upto the job(get someone to rev it whilst you look for excessive engine movement)

MK5's manual boxes are quite study tbh, mines perfect even after 5 years of being boosted.

Hmm, the more I things I have to do to this car the less I want to know about how it was used prior to me buying it...

Well, I've gone ahead and bought a Powerflex mount anyway. Might also get a short shifter, get them done at the same time. Thanks for all the help guys, I will endeavour to update this when it all gets done to say if there's been improvements (which, hopefully, there will be!)

Oddly enough, there's a 60ish year old guy working on the same business park as me with a black MK5 DSG. I walk to the local Tesco most lunch times and I often here him driving past. He absolutely babies it. I'd be surprised if it's ever seen more than 25% throttle

Still, pensioners in R32s is better than Hyundai i10s and Micras I suppose!

Thought I'd come back with an update.

I finally managed to get the dog bone mount fitted yesterday, alongside a Neuspeed short shifter. Sad to say, the issue is still noticeable so I guess the next step will be to get the oil changed. Re: the short shifter, it was extremely weird using it at first but by the end of the day I think was starting to appreciate the change.
