Just about to get the 40k service done on my MkIV R and am ringing round for prices. Spoke to my local VW dealer yesterday and was quoted £333 'all in'. When I asked to check that this included the Haldex, he said that was an extra £113 on top making £446 in total.

I was firstly suprised that the quote didn't include the Haldex which I understand is a standard service item at 40k, (and he did know the car was an R32). Is this a typical main dealer price?

I am looking at non-franchised garages but am worried about not having main dealer stamps in the history come p/x time.

What does anyone think?

Thanks in advance.

That is pretty much typical dealer and dealer prices. Give Ed at APS in Brackley a call (not sure what part of the UK you're in?) as this is where I had mine done for somewhere around £280 all in - service and haldex - if I remember correctly?

Had mine done at APS earlier this year. Paid £350 which included full service and haldex oil and filter.

If you're planning on keeping the car for a while then I'd forget about having "dealer" stamps, and get a specialist to look after your car in future! That's what I'm doing now, and APS are the guys to look after my car!

looks like there is not much difference in servicing prices. I live in Perth, australia and i had my 60k km service recently. i paid A$1100 and that included spark plugs, engine oil and filter, trottle body clean and alignment, brake fluid and haldex service. It includes the air filter replacement but i have a CAI so they didnt touch it

APS are a bit far from me, but a bit of searching and I realised JBS are just 20 minutes up the road from me! Car now booked in with them next week, £400 incl haldex which is a bit cheaper than VW. Sorted.

Thanks for the advice, folks.

I went to VW and it cost me £350 all in for a long life 40K service inc haldex. Although the idiots forgot to do the haldex first time round so it had to go back the next day.

TBF I think it depends where you live in the country as well as VW seem to charge all different prices on labour etc.

VW dealers are half asleep when it comes to services, ive had my fair share of problems with them in the past.

Well, 40k service undertaken at JBS last friday. £318 all in and very satisfied. Can recommend their service and advice- will be back for a few minor upgrades over the summer. Cheers!
