Well had a nasty meeting today ...another useless bus driver that doesn't check his mirrors before pulling out ...

Couple of questions
My insurance wants the car to go to one of their approved repairers.
& I'm not sure I want it to go there
Firstly I've spoken to VW & it invalidates the paint warrantee if it goes anywhere other than where they say
How many years is the paint covered for ?
& what's your take on these approved repair centres ?
I'd like it coming back all the same colour with new panels & no filler..
Any help would be much

Hi.

I'm an estimator at an accident repair centre. I wouldn't let it go to your insurance companies approved. They will dictate the repair to them to cut costs. It's your car and you can have it repaired wherever you like. Looking at the images it should all be new panels. A lot of the better bodyshops now offer a lifetime warranty on the paint, which will last longer than your manufactures warranty.

If you've got any questions mate, feel free to message me.

According to the brochure that came with the car there is :

Three-year Paint Warranty=
the paintwork is covered against manufacturing defects for a period of 3 years.

12-year Body Protection Warranty=
The internal body sections and panels are covered against rusting through from the inside for 12 years.

Hope this helps mate. (sorry for the bad circumstance)

Adam.

Take it to where YOU want to take it, you have the right to do so. Don't ever take a car to a so called approved repairer. Its approved to do a bodge job at the lowest price.

Also courtesy cars are available from VW's own accident management company who will take up the case, provide a similar courtesy car, and not involve your own insurance company.

Could be on a sticky wicket there, if the bus driver says he was indicating to pull out. Highway code 223 says drivers should give way to buses wherever possible, especially if they're indicating that they're pulling out from a stop...

I hope not fella the car in the pic next to the bus was where he hit me ....I didn't move it & he had only reversed back ....if you can see the mark on the road where the impact happened I was alongside his window when he pulled out & shoved me into the pavement...

Yes but many of them start moving out just prior to indicating. Does my head in.

you don't have to go to their approved body shops, in fact i used to work on the claims department for direct line and i was never a fan of their body shops so i always let the customers choose... i got bollocked for it but i was only there 3 months so i didn't give a shit

take it wherever you want mate, get it done right, and it will probably need a new panel, it looks beyond repair to me, but im not a bodyshop lol

I swear bus drivers think they own the road, just indicate and pull out, several occasions I've had close encounters with them.
Bunch of donkeys.

Sorry to hear about the motor mate, looked beautiful at volksfest and hopefully you're get it looking good in no time, let us know how it goes.

[sub]I had a ding in my R a couple of years ago, and like you, my insurance company (Aviva) wanted me to take it to one of their approved repairers. But after checking my policy docs, it clearer stated that I had the right to take my car anywhere I wanted too - but there would be an additional excess if I did (think it was £200). [/sub]
[sub]In the end, having done my own research on all the potential repairers near to me (Bristol), I opted for one which just happened to be on their list. They did a fantastic job.[/sub]
[sub]It might be worth asking for a copy of their list of approved repairers and do some research......[/sub]

I phoned VW today to confirm that if I took the car to anywhere other than an approved repairer it would void the corrosion warrantee ..& it did ....I told this to my insurer & they didn't want me to loose the cover ...and all I lost was the courtesy car & they said if anything was wrong with the work once completed they wouldn't help rectify it ...
But it's gone to VW to be fixed ....fingers crossed should be back soon

When someone ran into the back of my R32 a few years ago, I went through a similar process and rejected the insurer's approved bodyshops and got my VW dealer bodyshop to fix the car.

I had the same issue regarding courtesy car but the other party's insurance company sorted me out with a hire car for a fortnight.
