Aftermarket/Uprated HID Bulbs - Worth the extra cost?

Hi,

Just had another LED sidelight go today, so will be changing it this weekend, however I've noticed recently that my HID's just aren't as good as they used to be, and considering I've had the car about 7 years now, they're probably due a fresh pair!

So I was wondering if anyone's ever fitted uprated ones, like the Phillips UltraBlue 6000K, or similar? I can only assume these work off the same volt/amps from the stock balance units, so shouldn't throw up any HID fault codes etc.

If anyone's fitted them, are they drastically better than the stock? Considering it's about ÂŁ100 a bulb, I'm understandably skeptical.

Thanks for any help in advance...

In a bit,
Leon.

6000k Phillips bulbs aren't brighter that stock, infact they are probably not as bright compared to a fresh set of 4300k bulbs.

The 6000k Philips bulbs look bluer and hence more 'scene' if u like. Not sure I'd pay ÂŁ200 for a pair though!

Ah, right to be skeptical then...

Think I've given up completely with aftermarket bulbs then, the last set of 'Cool Blue HID Matching' fillament sidelights I got where more yellow that stock too, they'll write anything to sell bulbs :(

Thanks for the heads up Matey!

Leon.

People wil shoot me down for saying this but I just grabbed myself some from HIDs direct they fir and work fine in 6000k. about 20 quid pair seem to be ok for about a year so far. However may try the Phillips ones next time...
Im sure R32Dave found them about 70 quid each??

Someone on here ages ago recommended a seller on ebay who was selling main headlight xenon bulbs. Try searching on here.

I bought 2 x 6000k for about ÂŁ20-ÂŁ30 (for the pair) and they have been faultless.

I will not scrimp and save when it comes to this car, but there is not a chance I am paying ÂŁ100 for one bulb...

I guess ÂŁ50 for the pair would be my top line.

Let us know what you find out...

Are the bulbs quite simple to change? I've done the LED sidelights already.
Yer they are pretty simple, they only go in one way. they just lock into place.
No fiddly cages to deal with i did mine under half hour for both...
