The original plastic thermostat housing fitted to my MK5 R32 has started to leak and requires replacement. I could just replace it with a new OEM plastic part, but I'm considering replacing it with an aluminium part that should last the life of the car. I'm interested to hear the experience of owners that have fitted an aluminium part, particularly the one produced by iABED (which is readily available in the UK).

While changing the housing I plan to change the connecting plastic crack-pipe for an aluminium one. It appears from my research that Gruven (Gruvenparts.com) are considered by many to manufacture the best aluminum crack-pipe for the VR6 engine. Does anyone have experience with aluminium crack-pipes manufactured by Gruven (or others) that they are willing to share?
