Looks to me like he was bitten quite a while ago, at least 2 weeks. The venom causes cells to die and kind of melt or rot I think all the missing matter would have just fallen off, he's got his foot submerged in some kind liquid it looks like, that's how it must stay so clean, I've never seen bone exposed like that so cleanly, spooky. Look how healthy his toes look.
