Hey guys, not sure if its been done before, but is anyone interested in a tutorial how you can tune your own ecu for the Mk5 and Mk4 R32? I've been doing it for a couple of years as a hobby on my MK5. It is quite a bit to write up so I need more than 10 people interested. I'm not a pro at all but with the info and some initial soldering , you will be able to flash new settings, such as cam timing, ignition timing, fueling, turn off cat heating and what ever else you want in about 5 mins at a time.

The mod looks great it should do the trick!
Do you have galletto 1260 to try it? BTW Get both galletto and mpps v13. only mpps does the imbedded 'flash' (MCP) for advanced coding later on. Also get a blue Kline cable.
Test 1 is downloading the flash and uploading it back so give that a go. Then, I will show you how back up MCP and eeprom before you do anything.
I highly recommend you put the original CE code in the box instead of the KR, unless you have the A2L file on hand. Logging with vcds is not very good, R32logger is best but needs the A2L, which is available for CE. I had KG and for the same reason put CE.

Hello,

Thanks for all the info @R32Drongo!

I just put a BUB engine into my US market R32 that has a CBRA engine, and now I want code out the SAI system in my ECU. I have the ECU for the BUB engine available so my plan to start is to Clone the files from the CBRA ECU to the BUB ECU, then work on messing with the extra ECU to try and get this to work.

It seems like I could do the cloning part with the mpps v13 cable and winOLS, does that sounds right? I'd like to keep the original ECU stock, and then I'm happy to modify the cloned ECU.

Finally, do you or someone else by chance have the winols 1.5 installation files still? The links in this thread are all dead.

For backing up all 3 components use ST10Ripper, I think I posted a link to it some time ago. For this use a plain kline cable, the normally cheap blue ones.No need for the special boot mode, it can work just with ignition on, in the car.
For cloning the backed up files you need to open ecu and put into boot mode. Then use mpps 13 to do the flash and mpc and use the blue cable with some other free software which I now forget to do the eeprom.

Use 2.24 or other newer ones. Patch the MPC and the eeprom so that checksums are not done, then you never need to use the outdated 1.5

But hold on a minute, you are much better off keeping the ecu that came with the new motor! Just edit the eeprom with the cbra vin and immo details. This works if the bub motor is from an r32 with the same type of transmission (manual or dsg).

As far as I can tell the cylinder head, cam bridge, VVT/VVL actuators, and SAI system. the CBRA has a cylinder head that uses two combi valves, and the BUB only has one. CBRA is what came in my US 2008 MK5 R32 and the BUB came in an 07 Audi A3.

Both cars are 32v VR6 with DSG, and Haldex AWD. They also share P/N's for other major parts like block, crank, cams, cam phasers, etc.

Mpps, kess and many others can do it too. It takes over 20 minutes vs 3 minutes, it is a standard built in feature of the ecu software, not the special bootstrap mode that is built into the microprocessor itself.
You cannot clone without opening the box, but you can turn off the immobiliser on the new ecu and change maps without opening it.
