Hi people,

I have a noise which sounds like a rattle which originally I thought could be a DMF however all gearing etc is fine but when I have the car at idle I can hear this noise. I've neve really had the heater blower turned off just on the 1 light so not fully off however the other day I decided to turn offan all of a sudden the noise had basically vanished, maybe only the very, very slightest or so. So then I turned it up gradually from 1, 2, 4 lights up to max and it got worse as I did. Anyone reckon they know what it pribably is as I have a rough idea but no specific pinpoint to go to......

Wasn't until I did turn off the power of the heating that I realised it had this connection.

Mk5. Basically when engine is running I thought maybe a DMF noise was apparent however I wanted to listen to the engine and turned the blower off fully and the noise around engine bay or in there near enough went. Maybe only a slight amount of sound there still but hardly any and then turned it back up gradually and it got bit worse as turned it up.

Not sure what it is

DMF noise goes when you press the clutch pedal (or do the equivalent in DSG cars). Could it be main fan noise? Something loose touching one of the blades maybe? If not it must be the fan inside the car? Just guessing really as I don't have a mK5 but the principal of trouble shooting is the same
