Does it only watch one channel, and require its own disk, and unique set of cables to work?

Personally I like it. You can stream your music or your films or anything else you have on your iTunes through ATV onto your TV. The apps that are available are pretty useless and are more geared up for the US market but I use mine simply to watch films I've downloaded and converted to mp4 and imported them onto iTunes. I also use it for playing my iTunes music library through my amp and home cinema speakers too. And it's only £100! All you need as an addition is a hdmi cable.

i have a couple of the jailbroken ones and i think there excellent... a lad at work bought an android one and its not a patch on apple.. and i'm not what you would call a apple fanboy.

Personally i think they're pants.... doesn't do anything that your phone, tablet or console doesn't do already but if your a fan boy and all your content is on iTunes then I can sort of see the appeal

Surely the question should be what am I realistically going to use it for? Then assess if it's the best product for your requirements

Personally media centre with xbmc is where it's at

AFAIK, ATV3 can't be hacked, so you're limited to 720p if you want a jailbusted ATV2.

I ripped all my DVDs and BluRays to disk with Handbrake to a couple of 4TB HDs (I don't want shelves and shelves of discs clogging up my house) and for streaming those and music to the TV and Hi-Fi, it's spot on.

Jail busted ATV2s with that on it are fetching stupid money on ebay at the moment. I made a handsome profit on my unhacked ATV2s on ebay (if it's what people want, who am I to argue, lol), which essentially made my ATV3 upgrade free

XBMC is open source geek stuff for rage against the [Apple] machine types. My mate has it on a mini-PC and it's nowhere near as slick as ATV / itunes. Kind of ironic that the Apple bashing XMBC fan boys want Apple hardware to run it on.

I disagree that it's not as slick.... it's far superior in every sense. The only thing that apple TV provides is a cheap solution to a problem that didn't previously exist....

Of all you want to do is spend less than 100 quid for quick access on one device to content already on iTunes or an external HDD then yes apple TV is fine....

If your thinking ahead, are likely to require further devices adding later or indeed if you want to stream 3d you need a media centre or certainly a more robust setup with some more grunt

Just my 2p worth
