Benefits of Manifolds and Hi Flow Cats?

1501 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  DomR32
I spoke to APS the other day about getting a remap done, and asked whether I'd need to get it remapped again if I ever got around to doing the cats and manifolds to go with my milltek cat back...

His reaction was that APS rarely advise fitting aftermarket manifolds as you lose low down torque. Do people know if this is true, and could someone explain the benefits and power/torque gains involved in adding hi flow cats and/or manifolds after the cat back? I understand Hi Flow cats are a higher impact mod than manifolds, but at a price.

Cheers

Bump - anyone got some knowledge to share?
A personal opinion is unless your going for big power I wouldn't really bother, the 'pounds per power output' ratio is a bit steep really. Looking at your current spec (signature) I'd stick with just a remap at this point. But if you do plan on going down the cams or forced induction route, I'd probably look into it then as I'm sure it would help...

Hope that helps,
Leon.

Alrite dom ive had the Hi flow cats fitted mate and they do make a difference the car feels alot more free! they make a loverly sound! My cats set me bk I think £700 or there abouts! So quite a bit of doe! When they took my original cats off they was on there way out any way and they had only done 18000 miles, so if you need new cats go for them!
Interesting question. Don't know anyone who has done this without also putting in a performance cam the way I have. I will say that with the cams there was zero torque loss with the addition of headers to my Milltek cats and catback. With the 2 stage manifold and VVT our engines are very torquey. I doubt whether headers will cause any loss. As to whether it's worth it, if you're going that far, do yourself a favour, put some cams in and get revo stge III software. You will be amazed.

Cheers for the responses guys. The remap will be next, and i've always thought I'd go as far as I could power-wise without breaking the bank (forced induction) or doing irreversible things to the engine (cams).

I figured the only other things I would therefore consider to get more power were cats and manifolds, although as people are suggesting, they might not be worth doing without cams or or a charger (especially at £700 for the cat).

If a grand in extra exhaust parts only gets me a few more BHP and ft/lbs, then perhaps the money would be better spent on cosmetics / suspension.

hmmmmm What a quandry!:alberteinstein:
