Hi - just wanted to say - thanks to whoever has posted on this topic before. I purchased my R32 last week - love it - didn't consider looking in the engine bay to check it had a V6 as it was coming from a trusted dealer - so I didn't try popping the hood - until I got home. Odd, wouldn't pop up. Last Golf I'd had was a 1996 1.9 non T diesel many moons previously. Before looking like a prat and complaining I thought 'try Google for a solution' up came R32OC - well - whoever posted about twisting the grill badge off and poking about - thank you - it released. It is now soaked in WD40, followed by 3 in 1, followed by a good greasing - its perfectly smooth now and all as it should be. I shall keep an eye on it all...
My thoughts on WD40 - good but it dries out and you end up back at square one - so once you've freed it off, you need something in there that won't dry off so quickly in future.

Glad to here you got it sorted mate... Anyway, as you've discovered, this is indeed a common problem, as it get all the elements of good old British weather hitting it up there in front..
What you need is a can of white spray grease or a can of chain lube, couple of squirts of that shall keep it lubed up for quite some time! But one a year, give it a clean up & relube!
