Hi

Novice query---

I was advised a while ago that my rear lower arm bushes were a bit worn, not a major problem at the time.

Then again (although this time VW dealer) said the rear bump stops were worn.

Are they the same thing? Or do I have more than one thing wearing?

Normally don't trust the dealers but the price difference was enough for me to think twice and question it.

They are completely different. Bump stops are on the shock absorber itself. They arnt terribly important

Lower arm bushes I would look at getting these replaced

Its up to you about the bump stops. Ive never replaced them and not had an issue

The bump stops on the rear are what the spring sits on on the arm so not on the shock absorber on the rear.

I've always referred to the bump stop as being the rubber buffer within the shock to stop the 2 faces coming together on full compression travel.

Yeah me too but on the MK4 the bump stop is on the spring platform, hence saying it wasn't on the shock. My bad for not realising the OP was talking about a MK5.
