HI
Just about to get my first R32 and wanting to double check with you guys re the cambelt/chain change..
Having been stung with a Fiat 20vt cambelt change bill without checking... muppet! I wanted to check this with the R32OC...

The chain should last to 100,000 miles ??
And if under 100,000 miles and the car is a 2003 model then when should you change it??

Thanks for your help.

the chain its selft dosent need replacing really. just the tensioners wear but its not recomended at any mileage really, just replace when it starts to rattle and that could be well over 100k miles. i looked into how much the cam belt would cost to change when looking to bu then found it was a chain so was well happy

If they meant a chain they need shooting!! lol.....Chains normally last the life of the engine....sometimes the tensioner needs replacing as this make the chains rattle...If the head is taken off for anything its worth changing the chain as a matter of course....
Hope this helps...

There's been quite a few R32 owners told that the cambelt needs changing every 40k... you'd like to think that the stealers knew about the cars they were selling us!!! It doesn't have a belt!!!

That's why I'd recommend taking it to a specialist rather than a dealers.

Good luck in your hunt for one.

lol worrying!!! The dealers only have "techs" who read from a step by step book etc....they used to be mechanics/engineers not anymore ;o)......there are exceptions to the rule of course....
