Is there a guide anywhere for doing this? (MK5)
What Oil do they take?

I dont want to pay a garage to do it when i'm quite capable myself.

Thanks

Rob
DO an ebay search buddy for a Haldex Service Kit, it will all be there, oil and filter needed for the job.............

Costs around £50 i think, i don't know about the MK5 but on the MK4 your need a special tool to be able to do the job and thats around the £20-30 range too

Most places i've asked will do the service for around £100 such as AMD and others

Hope this helps

Ahh cool, i'm gonna do a full blown service, engine oil, air filter, spark plugs etc etc. Its on a crappy Longlife plan. Its not been done since 54k/sept 2011 (now 66k) and there is no record of DSG or Haldex being done..

Did mine about two months ago and you definitely need the haldex tool makes the job so easy

But all ya need is filter, oil, tool, Allen key and summit to catch the old oil

Putting the oil in is pretty easy too just use the tool to force the oil in the same place the old oil came out and quickly replace plug you don't lose very much oil doing it this way anyway

Not ideal but wouldn't worry me.

I would be more concerned about DSG, VW are very strict witb 40k interval and won't honour any warranty or goodwill on DSG if it's not done as per schedule.

You sound like my Dad.

I remember going to buy a Polo for him and the salesman was trying to sell tje features of the car as you would expect and my Dad put him in his place and said "Don't care, simple is better".

To be fair to him, he bought the Polo new in 2004 and still has it and it's lost less money in that time than what my options cost on my Rocco:)

Anybody know what grade the oil is please? Don't see a reason why i should have to buy VW oil...

And as for vw not honouring a warranty, they wont anyway. Its being serviced by me. I don't take any car to main dealers. There all a bunch of robbing monkeys. the only person i trust working on my car is me.

and FYI, the allen key you need it 5mm

remove the plug, let the oil drain out
Then remove the filter
leave it for a bit so all the oil is out
Put the new filter back in
Fill from the bottom where the plug is, i had to bend the pipe from the oil tube to get it under the car, and pushed it out with the haldex tool
And be as quick as you can and pull the oil tube out and put the plug back... you will lose about a tablespoon of oil if you're lucky but nothing to worry about
Done

I got my car at 95k, and there have been no records of haldex changes
oops thats 5 missed

On full lock there were vibrations and i thought ohhh crap my diff has gone

I replaced the haldex oil and filter and it somewhat cured it

So i replaced it again and its good as new, id recommend doing it then again in a few months if you have missed any, its only £15 to save your haldex unit

Need to find alternative ways to keep post count high, now you're "Thread Game" seems to have died a death. Not having an R32, I can't be seen posting anything constructive.
