Hey all, not really sure how to troubleshoot this one so posting here to see if anyone else has any pointers.

My cars been off the road for a few months. I noticed today that the cruise control light is extremely dim. No other lights in the cluster are showing dim. I've noticed that putting more draw makes the light dim even more (for example, putting the heater or rear window heater on). The light doesn't get bright enough to see till you start driving. No light appears when the engine is off and ignition on (which it used to do).

I've checked power and ground on the fuse box, and it's showing fine. So I'm wondering if I have some other ground type issue elsewhere. Alternatively, I'm wondering if something odd is going on with just that bulb.

The cruise control does seem to work fine. It doesn't seem to be cutting in and out that I can tell, so it looks to be an optical issue only in the cluster from my investigation so far.

Anyone have any suggestions? Scratching my head here.

That was my original thought. However, I did a 50 mile drive today and the issue still persists. I get ~13V from the battery, and about 14 when the engine is running. So I'm pretty sure the battery and charging is working correctly.

The other weird thing I noticed today is that when clicking the + on the stalk once, you don't just accelerate a tiny bit, it'll go past 70. It also appears to be engaging to an unknown high speed on its own as well. Not particularly safe. Got a gremlin somewhere, and as the cabling looks to be in order, I'm not sure where to start digging!

Further update from this. Plugged into VCDS, engine, measuring block 66. The cruise control +/- toggle looks to be dodgy. I can induce the + (permanent acceleration) just from jiggling the switch (not clicking the button fully).

I’m still unsure what is causing the dim light in the cluster, and you can’t do an output test that includes the cruise light that I can see. It may just be a bad bulb, but I think I’ll be pulling the wiper motor out and confirming all the wiring anyway to make sure I don’t have a short somewhere.

No faults logged. Clutch and brake switches look to be working correctly based off block 66.

Unfortunately I can’t find much about faulty stalks from a quick search. I can live with a dim light if it’s just the bulb though.
