Buying my girl a laptop, but she needs Word. Dell want best part of 100 notes for Office to be installed.

I know my house mate used to have a cracked version, are they still easy to get, should you be of the disposition?

Usually Office comes as a trial on consumer laptops when the trial finishes you can purchase it for £60.

You could also try OpenOffice, http://www.openoffice.org

Or as DANMKIV has suggested, but don't forget to install AntiVirus

Why I obviously cannot condone it, torrent search for an older version with a crack or activation key

As silver says above, newer version are now online only like Adobe programs......

Nothing wrong with cracks/keygens if you know the source IMO

Only two i wouldn't touch would be cracked os and anti virus

Anti virus may flag a false positive on the crack as silver said but I've never had an issue. May need to add the crack to the list of exceptions for the anti virus but it's not hard

That's not what I'm saying. If you download a piece of software, and scanned it... if it was clean, it would register clean.

However, keygens/cracks, the very nature of the app itself will more than likely then get flagged in your AV software as being an "issue" of some sort and adding it to the list of exceptions is DEF not recommended.

My original post gave the clue as to what to do.... My way = 0% chance risk. Cracks/Keygens offer a much higher risk than 0% thats for sure

P.S. If you already have MS office installed and have lost the key, there are pieces of software that can scan your PC for activation keys.. useful for when installing older softwares onto a newer system

If she works in the public sector or maybe a medium to large size company, there is a fair chance she may be able to get it through the MS home user program (HUP)

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/licensing/software-assurance/home-use-program.aspx

Basically you pay a nominal (approx. £20 I think) for the disc/to download and use it whilst working for that organisation.

If she is a student then there are student licensing deals available.

Alternatively look at Open Office or Libre Office. Both do a large chunk of what most people need from MS Word (can save in .docx format and open MS Word docs etc.) and it is £0.

Well for £248 you can get this http://www8.hp.com/u...0#!tab=features you can also get 10% cashback via TCB

Personally I'd spend the extra and get the cheapest i3 laptop you can find, so far I've found this

http://www.cclonline...-500GB/NOT8707/

You can knock £30 off the above price if you are prepared to wait for the next deal to come up. Normally if you look you can pick up an i3 for £300 which is far better than the 1st choice.

Is I3 better than I7 yeah?!

I've always had Dell laptops, my last one did 6 or 7 years. So we were looking at the Inspiron 15 for the same price.

Appreciate your help Silver and ClubSport.
