I wouldn`t say common but does happen which as usual it happened to my car. For the price of a new crank pulley you can get a full lightened Neuspeed kit from companies like AwesomeGTI etc.

whats so good about Neuspeed pulley kit ?
Damn Forumrunner won't let me link back to the thread but I've copied and pasted my results:

Hey everyone here's my review of the Neuspeed Pulley Kit.

A bit of background to the car and the session:

Car is a Jan 2009 model with just under 23,000 miles on the clock. Modifications are: APR remap, Milltek resonated cat-back exhaust, K&N panel filter. Car is running on Tesco 99 RON fuel and no additives for the rolling road session were used. The APR map was set to 98 RON performance mode.

The car was put on the rollers and three runs were taken. The best value was taken and this is shown in red in the graph below. The Neuspeed Pulley Kit was then installed and a further three runs were taken. The best value is shown in blue in the graph below.

Now for what everyone wants to see:

My thoughts:

After doing some background searching on the net, I wasn't expecting to see much of an increase in power or torque (if any at all) and was just expecting a mild improvement in throttle/engine response whilst driving. It turns out that the pulley kit gained an extra 10bhp and 16lb-ft which is impressive for a reasonably priced bolt-on modification. Considering the claims made by Neuspeed were half of this I'd say that was pretty impressive also!

On the 30 mile drive home, I noticed the car felt slightly more lively and willing to accelerate at lower revs. The engine felt more willing to respond when dropping down a gear too. It's not a huge difference but there is definitely a difference there and it's not just psychological. The power seems to come in smoother than before as well, again it's not a huge difference but it's a marginal improvement.

I was hoping to take the car to Snowdon today but the weather put me off. Will have to drive the car more and see if there is anything else I've noticed. There is no difference in terms of engine/exhaust note, nor are there any more vibrations than before.

If you're looking to get the most from your engine from bolt-on modifications, I'd say the pulley kit is definitely worth considering :top:

A big thank you to Andy and the rest of the team at Awesome for fitting me in on the Friday. I got there late and I should have let Andy know earlier that I was going to be late. But they did their best and yet again they did not disappoint. Excellent service once again!

One last thing, if anyone is wandering why my power figures are looking low, we were all thinking this too. A replacement MAF that had done 1,000 miles was fitted to the car after the final runs and there was no difference in power. Will have to see how the car behaves over the next couple of months to see if there are any underlying problems :hmmmm2:
