Took my Mk5 in for a service yesterday at Caffyns VW in Eastbourne (also had an ac recharge and brake fluid change). Came back to collect it and found it parked next to a MkIV R outside the showroom. On a 52 plate too, so quite an early one if I'm not mistaken...

Glad to get back in the R after having a loaner 1.6 TDI Bluemotion mk7 Golf. To be fair it did drive quite nicely, but ran out of steam quite quickly on the hills. You can't moan too much at 74mpg and 0 road tax though I guess. Shame my £460 tax is basically subsidising the roads for people that buy these though :/ !

Anyone's on here?

Ha ha that's cool, how did you find their service? I have got a few parts from them before.

Wasn't me though, I'm in a black one.

Yeah I was quite surprised when I got back. I've found their service pretty decent. Normally deal with Dean there, who is a friendly chap and they always seem interested in the R. They seem to see them as one of VW's best efforts and I'm not going to disagree with them!

You pay for it, but then I guess that's the way with the main dealers... I'd rather trust them with it than some "VW Specialists" who can turn out to be far from it. I had an A3 2.0 TDI a few years ago and a VW specialist wanted more for a cambelt service than the Audi main dealer did!

Fair play mate, must admit I went there with a foggy indicator on my wing. Came out to look at it, the guy said the part is 50 squid as VW made them different to the normal golf.

Then he said, nip down here and get a new seal for about a pound, you'll be right as rain again.

Personally I'm on the Specialists side of the fence, but can believe you get bad ones. I use AMD in Essex and they have always been great.

Glad to hear that they didn't try to rip you off for a complete new indicator...

I have only used them twice now, so still chance for them to mess up I guess!. I can well believe that AMD are decent. If I still worked a bit more up that way I probably would've used them myself.

The previous owner of mine always had it serviced on the dot at the main dealer, so I guess I just want to keep it that way for the moment. Might take a trip to AMD for one off their open days to have a look round though
