Hiya, I have just paid a deposit for a Black 5dr R32

However i have just noticed on the pictures that it has a different rear spoiler than others. Its bigger and protrudes out more... Is there any reason for this? Why would it be changed? or was it an optional extra?

Also i noticed the exhasut tail pipes are different to others, i have a good look underneath but couldn't see a makers name. It doesnt seem any louder at all, which is why i am questioning it really. It looks like its been on the car since new... odd...really. I did ask the seller about the exhaust but he assumed it was standard. It doesnt bother me, but why if its not a milltek etc?

I will post up a couple of pics, all opinions/info greatly recieved
And yes i am a bit of a worrier :/

Without seeing pics its hard to tell. Sounds like it may have had some mods done to it by a previous owner. As long as you like the link and are happy with the condition and everything about the car then I wouldn't worry about it

hopefully towards the end off the week. Its going to have some paint work done, bit on the side skirt by the jacking point, small blister on the rear bumper and flaky paint front nearside end of side skirt (right by front wheel)

I have not seen the spoiler or exhaust anywhere else either... my first fear was maybe it was accident repaired, but its HPI clear.

Exhaust is a milltek with gt100 tips isn't it? So if it isn't loud it's probably a resonated. The spoiler is interesting i havnt seen that before it's different

Just because it's HPI clear doesn't mean it hasn't been accident repaired. It only means that the car has never been a write off.

Spoiler is an odd one though.

Changing the exhaust for a Milltek is probably the most common mod done, so I wouldn't worry about that and I doubt it's related to the spoiler. The spoiler is bonded on and the 3rd brake light is a common failure and the official VW line is that the spoiler has to be removed to replace the LED lamp assy, although it can be done without. Possibly, the owner got the spoiler changed at the time due personal preference? Only way to find out is speak to previous owners.

Enjoy the car.

You echoed what i didn't want to say, what with him being a worrier!!
Sadly too many people read more into these HPI checks than they actually give.

Sorry, never noticed it was a woman, not that it matters as I don't subscribe to common stereotypes:)

Is it?? Could be either.. I think we all assume it is unless they specify.. And yes, an HPI check isn't worth the paper it's printed on if the accident hasn't been declared in the first place.

I had the rear high level brake light swapped after it stopped working. They are a pig to swap as the spoiler had to be cheese wired off and repainted by VW. Just a comment should you ever to decide to just swap it out. If you are happy with it great!

As others have said, don't take a clear HPI as a good sign. I've been burned by that a couple of times.

Have a good look at the sills under the plastic trims if you can. Cracked paint around the jacking area pricked up my alarm hairs. It's not uncommon for people to understeer R32s off roundabouts and put them up a kerb. Folded sills and scraped sumps / subframes are the usual clues, plus a 4 Wheel alignment printout in the history.

I'm not trying to be a prophet of doom but MK5s are plentiful and I've seen such damage on R32s before, which the seller has tried to cover up.

If the sills are straight (clumsy jacking damage is different) and it drives straight and you don't get any bad vibes, proceed and enjoy!
