The topic of the story: The R32 was never meant to ferry 5 people around!

So Saturday evening I had planned to travel about an hour across the county to see some friends and have a good night out, stay over, and drive back in the morning. I had no beef with that, one of those friends comes this way for the same thing. He even went to the trouble of coming all the way here and picking up a bunch of people to take back there - I had to go separately due to other family Easter arrangements. All went well Saturday evening, a fun time was had by all.

Sunday morning and I get a nasty surprise. I say that I need to go in about half an hour in order to be back comfortably in time for a pre-arranged Easter lunch. Upon that, two of my better friends say that they may as well come back with me - Not a problem, they live in the same village as me. And with that, the chap who did all of Saturdays driving says "can you take the others back as well? It would save me two long drives!" One lives 20 miles from me, the other about 10.

Dilemma - take them all back and drive all around the county and cut the timing close, or leave them and make my friend do even more driving. I decide to be nice and take them all home. So I say, "right, we need to go now then, or I'll be late!" ... Half an hour later we're in the car, and what a squeeze.

5 men do not fit in an R32, especially when it also has Recaros! Worst still, the boot was full, so some luggage had to go in the back with them.

2 hours, and a quarter of a tank later I'm home, and about 20 minutes late for lunch. I wash the car today, and theres new scratches on the tailgate from their luggage, mud and scratches on the sills, and more scratches on the backs of the Recaros. And not a single penny in petrol money was offered.

The things we do for our friends! Rant over. Many of you chaps had similar experiences?

I would have gone mental.

Mind you i lay down the rules before i set off.

No smoking
No eating
Check shoes before getting in
No touching things
No messing about

and the list goes on, i usually get the replies...it's just a car. NO it's MY car MY rules or you make your own way, my mates are pretty good and respectful though to be fair.

Very annoying i feel your pain. I rarely let anyone in the car. Mainly family and close friends who do have respect for my car and realise that its not just a car!

If i was you i would consider having a word with them if they have damaged it as im sure if you went and stood on their new pair of trainers by accident they wouldnt be happy!

I had similar rules in my last car.. Although you missed out no drinking... Luckily i never had to do much ferrying around, and people understood how important my car was to me so they were pretty good with it.. Can't do with people that fidget... LEAVE THE F***ING BUTTONS ALONE!!! Lol. Don't you just hate those people that ask "What does this button do" just as they've decided to push it!! You wouldn't go into a cockpit and do the same thing would you so don't do it in a car.. That's my motto.

As for your situation, i'd have asked my other mate to run them home anyway, because for the simple fact, you had pre-arranged time constrained plans, he didn't.. And he should have known that anyway so shouldn't have asked in the first place. It wouldn't have mattered how long it took him to get back would it??

Now i'll always help people out when i can, especially if it's on the way and if i know them, but i'm not a fan of ferrying strangers because they don't know you, they don't care, it's just a quick lift home to them and they have no respect for your car whatsoever, especially if they're air headed bimbo's drunk on a night out.. They're the worst!!

I never take anyone in the back of mine as no one respects your car.

My girlfriend knows the rules and is good but if I pick her up from town it's strictly just her and no mates. Not having sick or rubbish left in my car no way!

She does take people in her Clio and the next day always find chips, lettuce, wrappers on the seats.

Unbelievable!

I always get the comments like 'its only a car' or 'stop being so pathetic with your car' but if they owned something worth that of an R32 and it was their pride and joy, they would be the same!

It's like them buying a Gucci handbag and me filling it with lettuce, wrappers and chips.

Years ago me and a mate fell out big time. I had a MK3 GTI at the time and this one mate was in the back seat alone with another mate up front. Next day I found a bogey on my head rest. Wanker said what's the big deal not like you drive a Ferrari.

I guess i'm glad that my main group of friends are all car enthusiasts and even another group of friends understand my rules after one of them decided to try and smoke in my old clio and i had to pull over and make them get out of my car.

Some bad stories here! I have a 100% no food, drink, or smoking rule in my car, and I enforce that rule like a middle-eastern dictator!

I especially dont do evening pickups anymore. Whether its a friend or a family member that needs picking up from somewhere, its them and only them that are allowed. Otherwise I end up with greasy kebab fingerprints on the windows or paint that never come off!

I only have one local friend outside of the OC who's into cars, and the worst he does is draw a smiley face on the window, or turn the traffic announcements on.

I've spoken to my dad and brother about this, brother says I should have just left two of them behind, but dad says unfortunately you just have to use it as a car sometimes. I have to say I share both of their opinions, while at the end of the day its a car with 5 seats, its MY car and I can be as protective as I like over it. Unfortunately, I really did owe the guy a favour so I'm still torn.

Worst still, one of them was one of my best friends, and he is disabled, and I'm sure the new scratch on the tailgate came from getting his mobility scooter in and out of there, which barely fits at the best of times! What can you say to that though??
