Just took my mk4 out and noticed as soon as I fired her up the epc light stayed on. Done a bit of searching on here and seen there's been a few people saying there's has come on, and they've lost power and had to finish there journey in limp mode. Mine seems no different though? Has Anybody had a situation similar to this or can anybody shed any light on it?

Thanks in advance, Dan

I had a similar thing but the traction control light was on as well,

It was the MAF

You need to get it scanned to find out what causes the light to flag up.

It could be any number of things including;

Coilpacks (car would be misfiring or hesitating)
ECT Sensor
MAF
Lamda Probe(s)

Also, check your brake lights as IIRC, with the MK4 if the brake light switch goes faulty it can cause the EPC light to come on, strangely.

It's in for a major service next weekend with a specialist so will pop down and see him tommorow. Il check the brake switch before hand to identify/eliminate that. The car isn't hesitating or doing anything out of the ordinary so fingers crossed its the brake switch....

Yeah mine went a few weeks ago too, and was the brake switch. Only realised it was slightly dangerous when saw there were no brake lights in the reflection of a window, decided to get it sorted rather sharpish after that

unplug your battery overnight and see if it clears itself, if it comes back then you have a problem

Checked my brake lights tonight and nothing, so the culprit for the epc light would be this brake switch? Iv had a look for the whereabouts of the switch but couldn't see it and didn't have as much time as I thought I would. Gonna have to order the part from vw to come in with my service parts and have a crack at getting it done then. Is it a easy fix or is it gonna be a headache?
