Few questions

Hi,

Being a new owner of a nice blue R32 i have a few questions i hope can be answered.

Here goes:
I hear the standard VW R32 alarm / imobilisor are not all that, is this true, if so then can anyone advise me of a decent alternative and a rough cost.
The much talked about 6463 ECU flat spot, does this apply to all R32's, is it intermitant, mine seems fine, but for how long ?
The rain sensitive wipers, are they always active or do you have to turn them on and off as needed ?

Thats all for now,

Any advise would be much apprecited.

Hi,when I brought my Blue R32, I also asked the same questions (and was expecting a centre arm rest, like in my TDI).

I was told that the R32 has a Thatcham cat one alarm/immobilisor (but I'm looking to change to a Clifford alarm and also get a Tracker fitted).
Just brought a delocking kit as well.

When I was looking round to purchase my R32, I asked about the 6463 ECU problems and was told my car did not need it (it is running fine).

I keep my rain sensitive wipers off, but you can always deactivate by moving the stalk down one position, just look in the handbook to make sure. I think it's good to turn them on in summer and off in winter to save the blades.

hi and welcome to the site :ciao:

as caxton says you can turn off the autowipe simply by moving the stalk down or were you thinking of something more permanent?

i would recommend delocking your drivers door, there are plenty of threads on here discussing it with links to various ebayers that sell them, expect to pay around £7 for a kit in primer. its the mk4's weakest link

the 6463 isnt something you NEED to have done but if your driving a mk4 then its something i would recommend you get done if your car is still under warranty even if your told you dont need it. mine didnt but after a few months of ownership my car did suffer with hesitation and so i got it done and now it pulls like a train. your dealership will do this for free for you unless your out of warranty and then it will cost you around £90 to have it done. if your warranty is out and your cars ok its a personal choice to wether you want it on there on not for the moment but if your still under warranty then whats free is free

what is the 6463? how do you find out if you need it and will it affect the remap?
it will effect a remap i think yes, usually remapped cars take into comsideration the addition of the 6463 when the software is loaded, if its not present then as far as i know the software overwrites the issue anyway depending on the map so you should be fine

im sure some mapped members will clarify that a little better for you, im not mapped at the moment as i want to get my zorst on 1st, but because the car was suffering i had no choice but to get it done asap.

dont fear not having the 6463
ok i leave it be as the remap was £400 dont wana lose this
you wont lose it but it may cause conflict issues if ou add it on
Don't know if its worth me booking in my R32 as its running fine (Its under warranty)
Bet VW in Sawston will charge me though.

I will call tomorrow and see about booking my R in with them.
i can remember when i drove my car on the test drive. id drove 2 other before and tbh i wasnt impressed with the car at all. they both felt slugish and slow. then i drove my one and it felt very quick. and mine had the 6463 update and dont think the others did. was day and night difference, know what yours must feel like now VC

Hi gazjones
After reading the above about the update on the 6463,
I will try again and see this time if i can get it done under warranty (But im sure I will be told again that it is not needed)
I will just have to see what the VW garage will do.

James.
just tell them your car hesitates between 2-3000rpm and that your aware of the fix so would like it. just because they say you dont need it doesnt mean your not entitled to have it done if you want to. its a vw update for the car to prevent and solve the issue, the fact that your car isnt showing the signs of the potential fault is no reason to assume it never will

belt and braces to coin a phrase :D

Thanks Very Cherry,:D

I will print that off and go to VW garage tomorrow and say that.
Just looking forward to finishing work @ 14:00 and i will see how good the warranty is.

Thanks,
