Hi all,

I stumbled across a detailer today, he corrects paint for a living. He's got his own garage and he works on alot of high end cars for a garage called Imperial in goodmayes/romford.

I've booked my car in for monday at 10am and he is only charging me £100!!

I can be the test dummy and if anyone is interested I am happy to give feedback with before and after pics.

Its based near east london.

Anways, ciao for now.

Regards

Anwar

Would be surprised if he is any good at that price, but if he is great find. I know I wouldn't 'detail' (what exactly is he doing?) a car for £100. Put it this way I spent over 50 hours a T5 van the other day, so would work out at £2 a hour minus the products lol

£100 does sound very cheap mate, to detail a car with a machine, its probably anywhere from 8 to 15 hours so £100 doesnt sound a lot to the guy. is it a correction or just a polish. so many stages before even getting to correcting the paint that need to be done before setting the machine loose. I charged a neighbour £250 the other week and that was a jag and i wish i had charged double lol
wheres the garage, i work in romford?

Well the garage is Rawlings bodyshop, and as the guy said its a correction, it's near the large Tesco in Goodmayes, I went round and asked Imperials, the dealer he does work for and he had nothing but good things to say.

I was suprised at the price too. Only time will tell!

Even if he can take a few swirls out and make it better than it is then i guess 100 quid will be well spent.

Cheers

A guy done mine for £40 plus some stickers my wife made for him. I would say my R is a lot better then it was. The whole car apart from the roof was machine polished using autoglym products. Maybe in these financial times people need to drop there prices? So if your near the herts area he can give you a good price. He told me if I send a few people over ill get a free one next time ;-)

let me know how you get on, for the cost of £100 or £40.00 i'll save myself the hassle of doing it myself and let someone else do it. seriously though is someone is let lose with a rotary polisher and really doesnt know what hes doing he can take a lot of clearcoat off your car and the next time you have it done, perhaps doing it yourself you could have strikethough. I've also heard lots of scammers which use fillers and the car looks lovely for a few weeks then they start to appear again and they blame the washing procedure.

my sisters boyfriend didnt want to pay for all the gear to have his BMW done, found someone locally and its didnt look to bad then in full sunlight i could see areas which looked like they had been masked by a filler and after a month of washes the car looked awful.

no problem with the cheaa prices but the guys that charge £500.00 plus for a full paint correction will take hours normally a couple of days and several procedures to refine the paint.

Well well, what can i say! The above post by rob was bloody spot on. It was at best, a very good detail andfinished of with a filler, personally It wasnt worth it as i could get similar results by hand on my driveway.

I shouldve used that money towards my own products and a good rotary and a spare bonnet to practise on.

He hasnt messed up my paint thank god but if you want something done, do it yourself or pay extra!

I'd love to do it as a job though because half these guys around my area do not know what a really good correction is!

I had Jonny at Pure Detail do mine... over 2 FULL, LONG-ARSE days - results were OUTSTANDING!

I paid £350....

Including correction,
Zaino'd
Wheels off and nano sealant
Interior
Engine bay
Glass sealed
and so on...

Attention to detail was there..even painting the plastic wheel nut covers.

I left it with him for the week while on holiday but presume this was over a days work. Looks like glass a few weeks on...and will now maintain myself.

Its all about the prep stages.

at least it cost you only £40.00, ive heard people being charged 00's and they stand there showing me how good the paint is and i have to bite my lip and not say anything that they have been overcharged.
at the end of the day to some people £40.00 before they sell a car is well worth it.

£200.00 offer above from MIQ is a good price for correction...its back breaking work and when materials and cost for time and lecy it really isnt much ,,,, never going to be a millionare doing it lol

Yeah I do it for fun really I enjoy it use about 50 quids worth of stuff and put a long day in, I get satisfaction from seeing people's faces when I am done and feeling the paint go from sand paper to glass,

I have done my mates cars and a few of the neighbours for a meal or in exchange for doing a bit of gardenjng or just a few beers

It's not my job more of a hobby and when I do forum ones its just for beer money really

The only one I got 400 for was my dads mates Ferrari and I did not want anything and he would not say no and posted the money when I thought he had gone

Its probably a once every couple of years treat for me. Spent a fortuane lately having the front end painted to sort stone chips, wheel refurbs and detailing.....Im happy with the car now though!

I will be leaving a note again for the dealers not to wash it.

if £40 knocks a few swirls out then thats all good.

Its back breaking work...especially in this heat!..
