I managed to find the gearbox leak today. Anyone know what this section is for and if its removable? It's leaking from right in the centre of it. I think someone has put some sealant on it before as there was something rubbery in the centre of the hole!!

Yes if that is on the end of the box....you can buy it from VW ...I had mine replaced...it's just blanking cap

Yeah it is. How does it go in, just push in? Any idea on price?

I think it was about £5.....i know it was not expensive....I never fitted it but you take the old one out...i think you pull it out and tap the other one in...you will see when you buy the new part

Is it leaking from a gasket or a seal?

i believe its the gasket, only had a 30 second peek when it was on a 2 post ramp

Ah right at least it's not the housing or a driveshaft seal.
