Golf MK6... the potential lineup

Well, with the current decisions going on at VW's headquarter to delay the production of the VW Golf until end of 2008, I am not sure how much you can trust any previews of the next-generation now. So take this with some doubts, because I am sure it will not look as boring as on this pics.

There will be numerous engine choices for the new Golf including a new 1.6L TSI engine developing 200hp as well as a high-performance 2.0L version with 260hp in the GTI. A rumored top of the line 3.6L FSI V6 engine taken from the Passat R36 and developing 281hp will round out the Golf range.

With climate change a major part of today's current affairs VW has also announced a 30% more fuel-efficient version. This stems from the VW Polo BlueMotion released late last year. The BlueMotion models utilize slow-shift gear boxes that reduce fuel consumption as well as low-resistance tires to save extra fuel.

nice engine choice, shame about the wrapping paper! sorry, but have VW gone soft on us?
sounds that way, but it could be to a good publicity stunt by them.

as long as they vae a big v6 lump up front im sure we will all be happy. Although i do think personally that a 3.6 would be just too heavy and a bit unbalanced.

it would explain the rumoured rsi version sporting 280bhp due soon
looks totally disgusting if you ask me!!!!

not liking the back atall!!!:afraid:
Those are some awful photochops, but I guess they give us some idea of what the mk6 (or is it a "mk5.5" facelift?) MIGHT look like. I actually think the mk5 looks better with the mk4-style oval headlamps as shown in the first pic.

As for the Golf R36, I'll believe it when I see it. A Golf using VW's 10.6 degree 3.6L V6 has been an ongoing rumour ever since the mk5 came out, even though VW have repeatedly denied any plans to put it into production. It was a similar story with the Ford Focus mk1 - rumours of a 4wd RS Cosworth version went around the Internet for the entire duration of that car's production, and that never materialised either.

VW are now getting a reliable 280BHP from the 2.0T-FSi engine (as fitted to the Audi S3) and a 2.0TSi (Turbo & Supercharged) engine with 300BHP is under development. Add to that the rising cost of fuel, punitive taxation in the UK (and other Countries) for high-CO2 emissions vehicles and the fact that the motoring press almost universally rated the mk5 GTi as a better car than the mk5 R32 and you start to wonder whether VW will bother with a 6-cylinder version at all the next time around. I hope they do though - you just can't get that lovely soundtrack from a two-litre four, no matter what you bolt onto it...
