Hi people, been on forum for just over year now and have never got round to doing a thread... so here it goes

Purchased a 2003 mk4 r32 in reflex silver in march 2012

just under 72000 miles with full service history and with some goodies

milltek non res cat back , carbon intake , neuspeed short shifter , AMD stage 1 map , smoked tints all round

took it out for a test drive and absolutely loved it!

handed the money over and off i went for a nice 2hour return trip home

few months passed and was still loving it but was out driving 1 day and the dreaded engine management light came on
dropped it off with my mechanic to find that my cat was on its way out , got me price for brand new genuine cat and almost fell over lol anyway cleared the light and came back on week later.
so was either pay for new cat, sports cat or decat
had itchy feet to do manifolds anyway and thought why not use this as an excuse and go for it and go stage 2

photo-11.JPG

everyone knows what decat looks like so not going to post pic

sent the car off to my mechanic to have everything fitted and boy did he have fun lol had problems getting the sensors off the old manifolds and cat. cant remember what he said but either said he dropped the sub frame or wish he did, think he under estimated the job and didn't realise how much of an ass it is

got the car back after 2 days and wow the noise was mental, was little shocked as was not expecting it to be that raspy, thought was going to be similar to the non res just louder

anyway soon got use to it and was enjoying the burbles and pops it gave off

next morning went to go out and car was running really lumpy and shit, first thought was that needed to be mapped as decat was throwing sensors all over the place

so car was out of action for week, got day off and booked in at AMD for stage 2 and got trailed up there just to be on the safe side

apparently needed new coil packs so had them change them and new plugs in

had her mapped on the rollers and came out with 260bhp.... was hoping for bout 270ish from reading what others got with same mods but hey ho

trailed it back and then went out for drive that evening, was running sweet and popping and banging lots sounded great, every gear change had lil pop

got back in it next morning to go for another blast and was back to square 1
car running shit like it was before, took it to my mechanic and plugged his computer in and after a while found out the problem...

he had got the sensors on manifolds reversed so was throwing ecu out reason why was so shitty!

got it swapped over and was running sweet as a nut FINALLY

next on the agenda was either new wheels or get a refurb, went for a colour change and refurb from company called spit and polish in kent, very good company and very pleased with finish of the wheels, went for like a M3 grey colour and sort of a satin/matt finish

made the tints suit the car a lot better now as didn't stand out as much

now need new brakes, been looking at all sorts and think I'm just going to go for new ebc turbo disc , yellow pads , braided lines and a decent fluid should make them feel like new again
will post up pics when place order and get sent through.... BUT

spotted a set of rota grids for sale on Instagram in a awesome colour and had only just been refurbed so where like brand new , couldn't resist and set off for a 6 hour drive to collect on sunday just gone, what a journey long 12hours of driving lol but very pleased with my purchase will let the pictures do the talking

Different tyres front and rear

I.E 215 on the front 235 on the rear. You will have to run say a 225 all round which will give you a little stretch on the rear but nothing crazy

ok cheers was going to post up what sort of tyres would be best, dont really trust a stretch so a small stretch would be ok

225/40 will be fine. What suspension you running? Think you might have a wee bit of poke on the front but you will see when they are on

Hmmm you might need a 5mm spacer but not much more. Im no ET expert but i think you will need a small spacer and pull the tops in.

M7N UP has the same wheels and spec so maybe worth a look at his

I've just been through the same process, I did it myself as I'm a mechanic and yes it is quite a lengthy process. You can see my thread on 19th of June 2013 to see how I went about it. I'm still running with standard exhaust including the cats from there, that will change to full Milltek when I have the funds but I'm very pleased with them indeed. I can't quite see how awesome and Amd ect can offer free fitting when supplied with a full system as it really wasn't a 2 hour job!

Just removing the cat section on mine was bad enough all the studs on down pipe side had badly corroded nuts and all but one snapped regardless of being heated prior to removal. So all new studs were drilled and tapped in ect... Most of us would expect exhaust manifolds to be troublesome but without model specific knowledge it's difficult to gauge how long it would take or the correct way to approach the job. Guess that's why you often get a more reliable service from specialists.

I also found that Milltek didn't supply the manifolds with gaskets for the connecting pipes. Which was a little disappointing. I had to give one of my parts suppliers one of the pipes to find an appropriate gasket. I then had to modify the Bosal gasket to widen the bolt holes. It wouldn't have cost them much to add that to their kit.
