....I drive an R32?

I've suddenly noticed that for the last four months that when someone asks me what car I drive. It's not a "Golf" or a "Golf R32"....its just an "R32".

I'm not sure if it's the stigma of it being a Golf, the fact it's only badged as R32. Or just me being a snob :stupido2: But does anyone else find they do the same?

The other interesting thing is that owners of what I'd call much more exotic cars such as Porsche 911's, RS4's and M3's have a mutual respect for the R32 despite them only being a "Golf with a bloody big engine" :D

Yep, I drive an "R32" too... then when someone says "Oh, don't know what that is", I just say "it's a very fast VW Golf!!!"

you know to be honest i used to, but these days it seems as less and less people know what an r32 is so i tend to play it down and just say golf. if they prod more i say r32 but otherwise just leave it at that.

i think my reason for this is that i can drone on for hours about the r32 and fear boring them if theyre not car orientated :driver:

agreed...

i used to say an R32 when i first got it..but i found that not a huge amount of people know what it is.

nowadays i tend to play it down as well and say a Golf mainly because people know what that is (and a little so that i dont come across as a snob/show-off)

You should try explaining a S3 to people who don't know there car's!

" it's a S3 "
" whats one of them? "
" It's a fast A3 "
" Whats one of them? "
" You know , Audi A3? "
" No "
" A A3 is a Audi Hatchback , but it's the fast one , it's a sport "
" ect "
" ect "

Now i just say Audi LOl

guess it depends who you're talking to. If its someone who knows about cars then its an R32 everytime. If its some muppet who doesn't know their Audi from their Astra then its a VW or a Golf.

when I had a Cooper S and went out on a first date with my current girlfriend who had a mini (a mini one), I just told her I had a mini too. Then when I gave her a lift home she was like, WOW this isnt just a mini, its a Cooper S! Hehe.. Oh yeah baby :star:

It usually depends on who I'm talking to, if they know cars it's an R32 but if it seems like they don't have a clue it's a Golf.

I just say a Golf and then leave it, if they eventually ask what engine it is I say 3.2 and watch them gasp.

Jeez, typing it hits it home! 3.2!! Thats huge! in a golf!

When I had a Passat TDI and had it Revo'd at a tuner in Leicestershire that specialised in Jap cars, when I talked about an R32, he was under the impression I was talking about a Skyline. Does that make sense?

I own a Porsche 911 AND an R32. I have an equal, but differing appreciation and respect of both.

Yeah there is a Skyline R32 also if you search ebay and put in R32 you get loads of skyline bits.

The skyline everyone knows has 3 main models...

R32, R33, & R34

so yeah, its easy to see why the jap scene would get confused when you say R32

I mostly say "my R" or VW R32 and try not to say Golf in between. I look at it this way, it's a bloody fast all wheel drive car, with a 3.2 liter V(r)6 and it is hiding in a disguise of a Golf. So it's more than just a golf. Like the new Nissan GT-R R35, it's so fast that "Skyline" isn't good enough.

Some magazine I read..." It looks like your sisters car, only it isn't. You meet it at a traffic light and just have to look at those 18 inch alloys to know, that this tidy little hatchback, is up to something."

I always say i got a golf, and its blue, then if they see it, people usually think its some sort of gti. The mk4's better for that, because it looks a lot different to a normal golf. I got a mk5 though.

I love it when they ask what size the engine is. I always have to tell them twice because they dont believe me.

^^These people are usually girls by the way. Or they arent into cars.

It depends who I'm talking to. To most people I say I drive a Golf but to those who know what an R32 is, I'll say that I drive an R32.

Sometimes I get asked what model of Golf so I'll then say it's an R32.

I think the best reaction i had / have, is when mines parked up in work, people can see what it is, but you get:

'So what's that then is it a GTI'
'No'
'So what is it'
'It's a 3.2 litre V6'
'Ohhh right - erm fast is it?'

End of conversation
