I picked up the R.... HPA!

Well today was the day... I picked up the R after having the VF supercharger removed and the HPA FT360 installed.
First off, it's quiet, it sounds stock. I have the Milltek ST system and I was going to get the silenced pipe installed as it was starting to do my head in. But now it's perfect! Going through town, motorway etc it's just right, it doesn't go through your head at all.
Anyway once you get going, the car has a nice hum about it (lowered compression I thinks done it). I was changing gear early just to get the feel and you can hear the turbo start to spool then a slight woosh when you change then a pop from the exhaust.
Whoever wrote the code for the HPA kit knows what they are doing, everything is so smooth, the exhaust makes a lovely pop between gears.
So as I came onto some back roads I gave it a quick blip from a junction in 2nd and kept my toe down. The power comes in at around 2.5K then up to 4K and from there things go mental! It's just like my mates Cossie, but a hell of a lot smoother! Exactly what I was after!
Every gear change from there leaves you in boost with awesome power delivery. Unfortunately the kit has to do 650 miles before I can give it a real beating, but its done 350 miles already so not long now.... On the journey home it did 30.8mpg and that was with some heavy right foot! So I'm really impressed with that. In 6th gear on the motorway you can stick cruise on @ 80mph and it's not spooling the turbo so it's perfect, if you plant your foot from there though it pulls lovely all the way!
On the 200 miles I put on it today I only gave 1st gear one hard launch and all I can say is that it's too short. They say the kit is 360bhp..... I have my doubts! It feels a hell of a lot more than that. I'm going to have to get it dyno'd soon because it doesn't feel 360bhp.
Chris was so impressed with the kit and how it performed he even said he'd invest in one of these kits himself! Now for Chris to say something like that.... It goes against all his rules!
Once I've had a little more seat time I'll give you all an update, but so far, I think you can tell I'm really impressed
I'll also try and get some vids or sound clips made up sometime soon.

Hi

That sound awesome, I am really happy that you are pleased with it! did Vagtech install it for you ? and if so what was the final bill +/- if you don't mind me asking !

Hope to see you again at the brands hatch meet so I can have a look
Keith that's fantastic. How jealous am I.

You will definately have to keep us updated as I'm extremely keen to know how reliable the kit is, and how driver friendly the car remains even with a turbo :top:

Cheers
Hiya mate, so glad your happy with the kit :)

We will def have to meet up at some point so we can see the difference (then i can only bang my head and wish i went hpa :( )

Glad you're happy with install Keith. Sounds amazing. Will be interesting to see the dyno figures. Look forward to reading more :top:
I had Chris fit the kit (originally worked for BBT's a long time ago) His company's name is Zeema although I'm not sure where he's going with this as he still hasn't officially setup yet. I'm trying my best to get him to setup shop! He originally built the racing R32's, RSi's, Beetles etc so he knows the R32 engine like the back of his hand or better.
The final bill was quite expensive because I replaced everything that could have gone wrong, even if it wasn't broken. I spent around £1000 just on parts from VW. New sump, belt tensioner, water pump, TT air-con lines, power steering lines, catch can, gaskets, position monitors etc. the list goes on! But I didn't want to have the kit installed and find out later something was broken!
Regards to the install price, I agreed to pay the same as what Vag-Tech charge, but remember the SC has to come off as well, but I got all that in the price. Sending the ECU off to Canada would have cost something but I haven't had a bill for that yet! So basically.... It was expensive! I also had additional heat wrap placed around some of the pipes, I wanted some piece of mind!

The car is fairly driver friendly, I obviously haven't done that many miles in it yet but I did a fair amount of stop go traffic and its fine, the needle sits at 600rpm, doesn't jump about or anything like that, just like stock. When you are in traffic you just want to make sure you change gear early otherwise if you do hit boost you may be in for a shock!

Sounds mega... Hope they start making supercharger and turbo kits for the Mk5 R32 soon.

haha, I can imagine it now. "Sorry officer, but I was only in 2nd gear doing about 15mph and then all of a sudden I was doing 60mph. I don't know how, it all happened so quickly!" :dontknow:

If we all had to pay you for a passenger ride I get the impression you'll end up getting back as much as it cost you for the install!!!

Looking forward to some vid clips :top:
So what is the exact spec of the kit you went for then?

The kit is an HPA FT360 track edition. I'm not sure how it differs from the normal kit apart from the downpipe is ceramic coated. :151:
LLLLLLUUUSSSSHHHH!!!!

now for the best question!!!!how does it compare to stage 2 supercharger???both put out 360bhp but which do you prefer now??and is it worth all the extra money??

good on you!!!!:2gunsfiring_v1:

was the car not put on the dyno to make sure it was making correct boost??wot bost shood it run anyway out of intrestd??
Im chuffed for you fella!! Looking forward to videos and pics!!

It's totally different, you really feel the power with the turbo where the SC comes on and gets stronger in a linear sense. The thing that got me with the SC was the fact it didn't kick, it was powerful and smooth but it was just like stock, just faster if you get me. The turbo is like driving the R with cams till about 3K then everything changes! To have all 4 wheels breaking traction in 1st, 2nd and into 3rd is an awesome feeling. I don't have traction control on mine so I know all 4 are going for it and it doesn't let up.
I haven't dyno'd it yet, I may do it next week if I can get the day off and book it in. I always dyno it at the same place so I have a guide from stock. The kit is currently running 11/12psi (I may wind it down to 11psi as that's what it's supposed to be, and I'm not sure how accurate these gauges are).
Is it worth the money....? Well I'm deffo saying yes at this point in time, but only time will tell! These things are never 100% reliable, we'll see what breaks first....... and how much to fix it! I'm thinking rear diff/haldex :help: I feel sorry for that thing at the moment.

good excuse to get a peloquin Decked ;)

Happy for you mate, but it makes me sad knowing that I now have to search harder for bigger and better things :p
Sounds absolutely awesome Decked. I was having naughty thoughts about chopping mine in for a 2-seater this week, but i think you've just persuaded me to stick with the Golf.

I appreciate you might not want to give the exact cost - but can you provide a very rough ball park figure please? I presume we're talking somewhere between £8-10k for this little lot?

you know, i dont actually rate them that good, sure they work well - like they say on the tin, but mine leaked like a seive from new on my last car so would never have another
Excellent news Keith, congratulations. I look forward to the video footage later :)
