Bit of cling film over electrical bits and its best to have the hose on more of a rain setting and to keep it moving

Gunk is what I used to use still works fine but R222 total autowash is awesome stuff to use with the use of some long handled/angled brushes then dress the plastics with some 303 aerospace protectant

Warm up engine

Rub Auto Glym engine cleaner, in small sections with a brush.

Rinse with a trickle of water from a hose.

Once done, mop up excess water from battery tray, and coil pack wiring.

Spray bay with Aerospace Protectant

Done

I do mine regularly.

The biggest concern is to not get any water down where the spark plugs are - the water will just sit in there and kill the coil packs.

Basically clean everywhere but not the coil pack areas. Just use a cloth and spray cleaner - I actually use a window cleaner spray, because it evaporates quickly and you can work it around the coilpack area without worry.

Otherwise depending on how dirty the other bits are, it'll be a mixture of elbow grease, degreaser, brushes, cloths, water, pressure wash (steam or very hot setting), and finally a decent plastic shine like Aerospace101

I just wipe the top of mine, as I know its all clean under there just need to wipe the odd bit of dust off it which has settled lol, once its all clean you wont have to work as hard at it, personally I wouldn't trust the steam cleaner prefer to get the hands dirty and you know you've done a good job

Magic sponges, cloths, water, metal polish, engine degreaser etc, time...

I've never steam cleaned. Wouldn't mind it, though I'd be worried.
If in the wrong hands a steam cleaner can melt plastics/wires etc.

A pressure washer can also drive water into electrical areas you don't want?

So personally, I prefer using a running hose/watering can with the aid of engine degreaser + brush.

Another tip is to keep engine running as this will help the drying process.

As said long as you cover up battery, coil packs, air filter etc you should be ok.
