The R passed it's MOT this morning with flying colours and no advisories. Chuffed about that. Haven't timed it to well as i put a new MOT on the Porsche on Monday!

Anyway it's insurance time for the R, currently with Privilege, my renewal come through last week at £985!!!! Christ are they trying to taking the piss! I'm 35, got 10 years NCB accident and points free!!

So a quick look around on the web this morning and I've secured a quote for, wait for it.....

£399! Slight difference I'd say!

How can these companies justify that kind of price difference for what is essentially the same product! I've just called Privilege to let them know that 'd not be renewing and the woman on the other end of the phone almost accused me of lying. Basically saying that there was no way I could find cover for that price. Cheek! :xD

Annoying how these companies try and rip us off, pays to look around guys!

If anyone's interested I'm now with Auto Direct.

Cheers

That's an insane difference - just goes to show it pays to shop around :D
Who was your new quote with as it's a very good quote. (edit: just seen Autodirect :))

I'm with Elephant, I'm 30 with 7 years NCB and 6 points for two separate speeding offenses and I pay £630 Fully Comp.

It's a gamble these days with insurance - how the two companies can be so far out beats me and then to get shirty with you just because you got yourself a better deal - good riddence to Privilege I say!

i had the same thing when getting my insurance. i was phoning around and got a quote for £2800. i laughed at it and said to the bloke that i already have a quote for £960.

he basically laughed back at me and said theres no way that can be right, and went further on to say "do they know its a 3.2" !!!! thats the kind of idiots your dealing with.
That's unreal but it happens! Just think about the poor saps that simply sign the dotted line! And more to the point that £500 saving represents over 2 months of spirited driving, as far as fuel is concerned.

I'm 40, with full NCB and 3 points and have fully comp with Direct Line for £365 per annum with legal cover, missus to drive, hire car provision and a £250 excess (which is worth checking). I do have other home insurance policies with them which helps I think but I've used them for my performance cars for the last 5 years and they've always been absolutely great.

That's a good price Evo. My excess is a little higher than that, but I choose that as I'm lucky enough to have money to cover small incidents. I little risky perhaps, but it's done me well so far. I don't have my other half on the insurance as she's only 27 and I don't trust her :D despite the fact that she drives an ambulance around all day like a lunatic! :D In fact that's probably why I don't trust her!

Yep, that's almost exactly what happened to me, it's mad!

Where abouts in Essex are you from Chris?
That's a good saving on your insurance.
I have not heard of insurance Auto Direct before, (Sounds like I will look it up and add to favorites)
Think I should add my GF on the insurance as this could bring the cost down.

I guess you've probably got a few nice country routes up that way to go for a blast. Gets a bit congested down here.

I pay less than that and I am only 22 with 1yr ncb!!! It shows the difference in postcode!!!
Just to wrap this up. I ended up going with Quoteline Direct, who offered protected no claims, legal cover, courtesy car etc. For the nice sum of £360. Total amount saved on my renewal quotation £625!!

Nice one - drinks are on you then :D
When i saw the first post from 'defianty' i was shocked!! I am 24 with 2 years NCB, a DR10 and 2 x SP30's!! I dont know what the renewal will be as I have just changed from a MK2 Gti 8V and had to pay £250 for 3 months on top of my annual of £1,100 on the Gti................
April is the renewal date - I wonder what it will be - with my record anything £1,400 below i would be happy!!
What Does My Head In . I Am 32 Full No Claims (10 Yrs) No Points No Accidents.i Pay £365 With Gf On It. But If I Take The Gf Off It Would Cost More There Crazy Lol !!!!!!!!

but this is because you are seen as less of a risk, as you have in theory have resposibilities.
I have gone through many different emotions today looking to beat the renewal quote sent through by Direct Line.

I am 24 had a licence since I was 17.
3 Years NCB
DR10 in 2004 and 2 SP's in last 3 years - one soon to come off.

Renewal Quote from Direct Line = £1,973!!!!!!!!:crying:

So most places start to come in over £2,000 and my frustration continues to grow, one place over the phone (Policy Shop??) told me that £4,000 came up on their screen!!

Tesco then came in at £1,767 - happier

DNA Insurance - £1,600 going down now starting to feel better about purchasing the .:R !!

Then I filled out on-line form with Churchill - £1,054!!!!:xD:xD:xD

Just goes to show, shop around keep phoning people and letting them know what quotes you have got - they will always try and beat it. Hats off to Churchill though! :)

That is good - bring on being 25 next year, only 8 months to go!!

Maybe a silly question but have you declared your modifications with Elephant??
i thought that mine was bad,

im 20, 1 years no claims, £6000 insurance claim,
standard r32

and paying just over £1500!! this makes me slightly happy seeing that im not the only
one being raped over insurance prices.

will hurt when trying to see what it will be with a turbo conversion
