Ok so I thought i would take a quick video to hear the r32 from the outside, as I only ever hear it from the inside while driving.

When I played it back I noticed after it revs, you can hear a sort of rattling/hard to describe sound as it goes back down to idle. I played a few other similar clips on youtube of stock r32's revving but couldnt hear it on them. Am I being paranoid or should I get it checked out?

Here is the video:
:EDIT: made video embedded instead of link

Ok, so assume you are talking your mum/someone equally mechanically inept through this, what would you tell her/them to do? I understand what a heat shield is and what one looks like, but where abouts is it located and what should I be checking?

Check the bracket/mount on the down pipe. Mine was making a similar noise and it was the mount that had snapped off. A quick weld later and it's sorted!

To check, jack the front of the car up, and you will see a 2 pronged mount on the exhaust near the engine, this is where mine broke!

Hope it helps!

Thanks Wez, that was my thinking too.

Haha that it does Zig, that it does. I noticed it sounds different starting up from cold compared to starting when it is already warm. In the video it is already warm and because it idles at a lower rpm it sounds deeper and more awesome. I hardly listen to music when I am driving around town now, I just put the windows down. There is a bridge near my house that I go under which has the fantastic tunnel effect on the exhaust. I sometimes pop it into neutral for a few blips on the way through.

Ha.. I know what you mean, there is a road I go down now and again which is very narrow and has high-rise houses on each side. The noise when you boot it down there is increadible....

So for anyone that cares I took the r32 to a garage last week (forgot to post here) the guy revved it for 5 minutes then drove up and down the road and couldn't reproduce the sound or find anything under the bonnet that was loose or looked wrong.

Didn't charge me because he enjoyed revving it
