Afternoon folks,
If you have been browsing the JBS area you will know my car was in today to be the first to receive the Custom Code VVT Attack map. (forgetting the fact that as I picked it up, another forum member, who's name I forget sorry, was having his done
)
When I arrived to collect, I had a very short drive whilst at JBS (at rush hour) so little chance to test, other than to note the torque picked up a little quicker and lower down. Got home and then went out for a spin on a mix of wide A-Roads and twisty country B's.
First thing of note is power, moreover torque, increases quicker much lower down the rev range. In real world driving terms this means I found myself driving in a higher gear then normal and just toeing the throttle from 2000rpm and getting a much more positive response and gain in revs than previously. Not only is this torque quicker to arrive, but to my mind smoother in its delivery. The band of torque also seems more sustained. Again, as previously with the Phase 1, the "gap" between 4000 - 5000 that was invisible to me until it had done is no longer there.
The second big difference is 5000 - 7000 rpm. I was always frustrated by my R in that it seem to deliver a wave of power and then run out of puff and over 55000rpm and wheeze its way around to 7000rpm, delivering extra noise for no gain. Well, that's changed. The power keeps coming in the same fashion from 5000 - 7000 right up to the limiter in a linear fashion. Exactly how it should have been from the factory in my opinion.
Last of all, in the brief drive I have had, I have noticed something about how I take corners. I arrive at a corner in the correct gear to see me exit with about 4500rpm on the dial, this is out of habit rather than intentionally, to ensure I'm am near the preferred band when braking is over and acceleration begins after the apex. What has changed tonight is that the stamp on the pedal exiting is smoother, and consequently, feels quicker. Don't ask me why or how, or even if I am explaining this correctly or for that matter imagining it. Time will tell, I'll get some more miles under the belt and revisit this part
Interested to see what the other chap made of his and if his experience is similar.
Oh and before I forget the noise with the non-res Milltek is mental :top:, I'll try and get some sound clips but if anyone's up the Yorkshire way I'm more than happy to take you for a spin.
I suppose the question you will all be asking is what the gains are? As I have said before, the gains are not what I'm paying for, it's the feel and driveability
