Just wondered what people's opinions were on this subject.
For those of you who don't know Rickie Lambert, he's an English striker currently playing for Southampton. He's 31 years old and has never played for England, his dream is to get a call up. He doesn't believe he will get a call up just yet, but hopes he will in the future.
What I don't understand is that he's 31... So surely he won't get a call up in the future as he's only getting older. I don't have a problem with age and international players as long as they're in shape there shouldn't be a problem (within reason). But I can't see Lambert getting a call up at 31 or older.
Forgetting his age, his stats are quite impressive.
As of today:
6th place in this season's Premier League Top Goal Scorers:
1. Suarez
2. Van Persie
3. Bale
4. Ba
5. Michu
6. Lambert
1st place on Premier League ENGLISH Top Goal Scorers:
1. Rickie Lambert
2. Wayne Rooney
3. Frank Lampard
4. Theo Walcott
This is his first time playing in the Premier League and this season he's already scored against:
Man City
Man UTD
Villa (Both Matches)
QPR
Norwich
Chelsea (Both Matches)
Fulham
Stoke
Wigan
Newcastle
Liverpool
Scoring 14 goals and 5 assists in 31 games.
Rickie Lambert Penalty Record:
31 Penalties taken 31 Penalties scored (100% Record In all competitions and all leagues for Southampton)
Free Kicks:
I think today's game winning 30 yard Free Kick against Chelsea is a good example (First vid Chelsea, second vid is random Free Kick)
Two seasons ago Lambert was the League 1 Top Goal Scorer, last season Lambert was the Championship Top Goal Scorer and so far this season he hasn't done too bad in the Premier League.
So what do other's think. I personally don't think he will ever get a call up because of the way the game is. But does he deserve one? Is he needed by England and would he be a benefit to the squad?
