Hi guys,

My mk5 has been leaking a little coolant for over a year and I decided to fix the problem.
It turned out to be the gasket between the head and the plastic thetmostat housing. I'm tempted to use silastic instead as I can see the problem happening again years from now because the gasket is like a moulded o-ring in a groove and loses compression over time, since the plastic housing is in direct contact with the head and can't be tightened any more.
Has anyone had the same issue?

The leak is often due to a crack or distortion in the plastic housings so examine carefully before just resealing with some sealant as it should seal adequately with the standard O rings
