To me both cars felt similar off the line in the dry, probably down to the torque of the TDI. In the wet it was a different matter, the TDI was less forgiving especially when pulling out of junctions, it would quite often spin the front wheels when it came on boost. The R32 fells so much more planted than the TDI, I am not the most confident driver in the world, but the R has made me feel more confident. Driving is now a pleasure instead of a chore.

The TDI was a nice car it was Anthracite (sp) grey I owned it from new. Although after buying it I wished I had ticked a few more options like heated seats and cruse control.
I changed to the R32 because when I looked at remapping the TDI it worked out cheaper to insure the R32 than the remapped TDI!, obviously not cheaper to run or buy. After a test drive in the R32 I was addicted to the sound it made and felt so much more special I had to have one.

TDI good points:
Economy
Very comfortable on the motorway
Performance (good for a diesel)
Could surprise people who thought their 2.0 GTI was quicker!

TDI bad points:
Fair bit of under steer especially in the wet
Power delivery seemed to be all or nothing
Seemed to get through front tyres quickly (managed 13k on the first set)
Doesn't sound as nice as the R

R32 good points:
Performance
Handling
Has all the toys I wanted
Thumbs up from fellow R32 owners
The nice v6 growl

R32 bad points:
Economy
On rough roads the rid can be a bit harsh
Security, the day I got it we had 2 people in our drive at 2AM looking it over.
