Hi guys, I'm 19 (nearly 20) and I'm based in Solihull, in the west midlands!

I absolutely love the MK5 R32 and I'm wanting to get one ASAP. Budget is 15k. My ideal MK5 r32 would be blue (best colour) 5 door, fully equipped with recaro leather seats! (OOOFT!)

Problem is, the insurance, quotes coming up as 4k upwards, can someone help me out.

I'm 19, mql3 dob 17/12/1993, licence held for 1 years, 1 year NCB, non-fault accident. Brother will be named driver on policy. Male, 31 year old, 08/09/1981, held licence for 12 years plus.

Insurance will be at Dickens Heath, Solihull which isn't a bad area at all. Post code is B90 1UB.

I am also looking at modding the R32, I want a capristo exhaust badly but they aren't available anymore?

Looking to do the following to the car:
Capristo exhaust
angel headlights
lower it
upgrade sound system
put a subwoofer in
change wheels
add an air intake
tune it at MPG tuning?

many thanks

I would be looking for a cheaper car and putting that money towards insurance bearing in mind the hopefully declared mods will push your premium up. Also I would ring a Performance or prestige specialist bearing in mind your mods etc. Sometimes the cheapest/lowest premium isn't the best

Oh and the obligatory Bonjour

Hmm, I might just wait until next year then, or beginning of the following year when I will be 21, i should hopefully have 2 years NCB.

I will probably just keep looking for the ideal r32 to pop up, 5 door, pearl blue, fully equipped, low mileage, leather seats and just snap it up until I can get insured with decent insurance company at a decent price.

Any prestige or performance specialists do you have in mind who could sort something out. Probably would be willing to pay, low end 2k for insurance, if need be.

The issue is the lack of experience driving a powerful car as well as your age. The non fault claim is a bummer too. Rather than paying 4k or anywhere near it even, get a lower powered car for a while 1-2 years. Then step the power up as your NCB grows.

As said, try the forum sponsors for insurance, you never know.

I'm 23 and my insurance is (i think) £1600 I say think, because i swapped cars mid policy and paid the extra. I expect my renewal to be 14-1600.

You have a healthy budget. My car is high spec, 2007, recaros, sunroof, satnav, power fold mirrors...ect, and i paid 11.5k from a garage, but it was on 85k miles.

I was happy to ignore the milage, in favour of the spec. But dont forget the later models (07 onwards) have a £475 road tax. But again, i didnt let that put me off an otherwise tidy example.

I wouldn't say that lack of experience could be problem as I've had mine since 18 and havent hit it, yet!
The quote isn't that bad considering your living in Birmingham
But with modifications declared you may not get insured at all
Also Capristo exhaust is awesome but they never come up for sale
I think i remember reading that theres under 10 in the UK before

Basically what you need to do is wait till you are 21 to get realistic quotes, i had to suffer for years with lower powered cars until i hit that age, then i went out and bought mine

And a few things

1. yes blue is the best colour

2. you should definitely go for a mk4 rather than a mk5, the money saved can go towards insurance as said above
3. bang your parents or grandparents on the policy lol

Many thanks for the replies guys! dec i'll be 20, the following year I'll be 21! So what I'm planning on doing is try again this time next year, hopefully I'll be able to find that ideal r32 and just spend a day phoning up a whole load of insurers and see where it takes me. £2,000 for the year i could live with.

I know I shouldn't think about doing this, but how about making my brother the main driver and me as the name driver on the policy? I know it's wrong and it's fronting but hey, what can you do? Oddly enough, I tried this on moneysupermarket and the insurance quote was even more expensive.

Not a fan of the MK4 tbh!

I'd say you need at least 3 y ncb to get an decent quotes under 2k. I'm 20 and with elephant, mods declared and that's 1.3k with parents added.

I'm sure next year it will be around £700 as i accidentally put down i bought the car in 2k12 when going through quotes and £700 came up.
A year of owning a car makes a big difference.

Also, buy a mk4!
