Can anyone tell me about timing chain change intervals etc??
No defined intervals as it's supposed to last the life of the engine.

However, as there have been cases of them stretching and in some cases snapping, some owners have taken the precaution of changing then at significant expense.

Stretch can be measured by reading the value off Block 208 & 209 utilising Vagcom or VCDS

and ideally need to be in the range of -8 to +8

I think using the right oil is a major factor so check that oil grade to VW spec 507 has been used.
Thanks, I couldn't remember the range of values.

Sorry to be pedantic, 507 is the diesel spec., 504 is the petrol spec. Although they do tend to be quoted together as VW504.00/507.00 as modern CR diesels and petrol models share the same oils.
