Have you been playing with the little wheel under the light switch that adjusts the display brightness?

Also, make sure the light sensor for the cluster is not obstructed as it will think it's dark and automatically dim.

Sorry not seen that before. There is an option within the MFD to switch off the display but that would just leave it blank.

I agree with Birdiemachine, needs replacing. I had a similar issue with the MFD on my Mk 4. I bought a replacement off eBay and fitted it myself. But wouldn't recommend it without having good soldering skills and a steady hand! Either option, it's worth doing though. Looks so much better.
