Afternoon chaps,

Seems i have a binding rear nearside caliper, so much so the wheel become quite hot to the touch, ive stripped it down, cleaned dust out of caliper and greased the sliders to no avail... The piston does retract freely (using a wind back)

So with that, worst case scenario, a new caliper is possibly needed, been quoted from an Independent specialist to have a look when carrying out a minor service (I would do myself, but other thread general consensus is to have a "professional" carry this out for the stamp etc etc for potential future buyers) to have a look / change if needed, prices are below, sound reasonable?

Service - Oil and filter change, car health check, levels check, blah blah for £157.84 inc vat.

Replacement rear caliper - £180 inc VAT plus fluid and fitting, which he said would be a hours labour.

Sound reasonable enough?

They are reluctant to fit my own part if i was to take it in, due to the warranty issue of it, as if anything went wrong, could it be my calliper i supplied or their maintenance work.

Let me know what you think, thanks.

Well you can certainly get a caliper for a lot less than that. Probably less than a third as much! Try someone like GSF or Euro Car Parts. An hour's labour to fit and bleed the fluid is good value though.

Out of interest, what are you using to lubricate the sliders? Give silicone grease a try.

I know i can get a caliper for cheaper - Carpart4less (the online version of ECP) offers for pretty much half the price... Its just the reluctancy of the indy to fit supplied parts.

I used high temp silicone grease for the sliders, but to no avail!

I think the warranty excuse is pretty crap to be honest. Since when do you get a warranty on parts that arnt manufactured by the indy and labor from an indy anyway?

I thought the same, but its warranty on the work i assume they meant, don't get me wrong, they're a very good garage, had work done on previous cars by them, so trust them fully... Just as anyone, i'm looking to get the best deal possible!

Called another specialist today, they'll do a minor service for £92 + vat so a lot cheaper, and change the caliper for a hours labour, and plus will fit a supplied part, so just need to find a cheap rear caliper...

Tbh regardless if it needs a new caliper or not, I may as well get one, saves time and hassle to whack one off and on again.
